Recently I had a different review experience for the movie “Snow White”. Instead of seeing the film at a press screening, I watched the debut at sea aboard the Disney Wonder as we were crusing during the press screening at home.
The policy of showing company releases the moment they release had us in one of the ship theaters hours before we docked to conclude our trip.
While the story is well-known, the live-action version does deviate from the source material and original animated film in certain ways.
The tale of Snow White (Rachel Zegler) and the Wicked Queen (Gal Gadot), is the same but there are new musical numbers worked in which Zegler delivers in a moving and powerful voice that compliments the other numbers by the cast and classical numbers.
The story mainly deviates in that there is not a Prince as the main love interest as a benevolent Rogue fills the part and the finale and opening get some tweaks as well.
The Dwarves have an appearance that does take some getting used to and may be a harder adjustment for those who grew up with the animated classic versus younger viewers.
While the film dragged in some places for me, the energetic performances will likely appeal to younger viewers who do not have as discerning tastes.
In the end the film delivers merriment and song and should keep the target audience smiling.
