Chris Lemons (Finn Cole) is a man who is happy with his life. He is building a home on a ideal plot of land in Scotland where he and his fiance can live their lives.
Chris has a good job as a diver but the work he does involves deep dives to repair the miles of cables and lines that inhabit the ocean floor.
In the movie “Last Breath” Chris accompanies veteran divers Duncan Allock (Woody Harrelson), and Dave Yauasa (Simu Liu), to repair a gas line at 350ft. The practical Duncan vouches for Chris based on past dives with him and is almost a father figure to him.
Dave is a no-nonsense diver who advises Chris upon seeing a picture of his fiance that distractions like this can be deadly as they decompression.
On site their ship looses thrusters which causes their tethers to drift and leads to a series of events where Chris is left with only ten minutes of air.
Against all odds a rescue is planned against a ticking clock in a highly-engaging film based on a true story.
The strong cast propels the film as we see the men as real people not action stars and the story effective avoids the usual tropes and excess that are too common for films of this type.
Great performances all around and a moving and inspiring story make the movie a very pleasant surprise not to be missed.
