The Accolade Sports Collection is a 90s gamers delight of classic sports games from the past.
Featuring Hardball, Hardball II, Winter Challenge, Summer Challenge, and Hoops Shut Up And Jam! The collection is a loving look at what were standout games from a time before widespread 3D Accelerated graphics, motion capture, and online gameplay.
Players may take a small bit of adjustment getting used to the speed, menus, and gameplay of the games but anyone who remembers the games upon release will soon be immersed in the deeply enjoyable action.
The biggest challenge for me at the start was trying to decide which of the games to play first. I opted for Hardball and after a bit of a hang-up getting the game to start as it seemed to have me looping the menu screen and intro gameplay; I was soon able to get into the mix and found that despite the advancements in gaming; this collection still delivered the goods.
Both of the Winter and Summer games offer eight games each for competition and as such there is plenty of action and replay value as players compete for the ultimate honors in a series of sports ranging from skiing to kayaking, track and field, and more.
The collection is a very fun and loving look back at the games of old and also shows how creatives had to work within greater limitations regarding speed, graphics, and sound but still delivered titles that were enjoyable and pushed the limits of what was possible at the time that they were created.
Despite some glitches; I found myself enjoying the retro action and regardless if you are new to the games or taking a trip down memory lane; this is one collection fans will want to experience.
