One of These Days Delivers The Laughs

The premise is simple. When best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (Sza) discover that they don’t have the rent money that is due, they embark on a journey to make the rent, and hijinks ensue. Thankfully, at a brisk one hour and 37 minutes, One of Them Days does not overstay its welcome for its premise. In fact, in the first moments, the film sets the tone and lets us know to come along for an enjoyable and hilarious ride and wraps up nicely with what is to be expected of a comedy of this nature.

Keke Palmer does a good job as the comedy “straight woman,” maintaining composure despite all the ridiculous things that continue to happen. Meanwhile, Sza, plays the comedic foil to perfection, balancing Palmer out with her eccentric nature. Supported by several other comedic actors, the ridiculous escalation of situations the two find themselves not only challenges the bonds of their friendship but also helps them grow as individuals and ultimately leads to emotional resonance.

Without spoiling the hijinks, perhaps the best thing I can say about One of These Days is that it’s enjoyable. Go with your friends, grab your favorite snack, suspend disbelief and you will have fun.
