Babygirl Falls Short But Has A Strong Performance By Nicole Kidman

Romy (Nicole Kidman) appears to have a perfect life. She is a successful and admired executive, mother, and wife.

However in the new film “Babygirl” all is not as it seems. Romy’s attentive husband Jacob (Antonio Banderas) gives her plenty of affection and love but she harbors a secret in that she needs to be dominated and controlled to be sensually satisfied.

A new intern named Samuel (Harris Dickinson), enters her orbit and senses her secret. This begins a game of manipulation where Romy is eventually controlled and enters into a relationship that could cost her everything.

The movie aims to be an erotic thriller but manly comes across as creepy and weird as Samuel is a very disturbing and unsympathetic character as are many in the film. Romy makes a series of poor choices which undermines the established fact that she is a very intelligent and ambitious woman.

The slow pacing also does not help and the saving grace is Kidman who throws herself into the part so we’ll that you can almost overlook the flaws.

Despite the ambitious premise the film falls short and could have been so much more.
