The latest Call of Duty; Black Ops 6 has arrived and brings with it a series of innovations for the franchise and more the great gameplay that has made the series a phenomenal success.
With the reported longest development time of any title in the series to date, features such as a new Omnidirectional movement option that allows players to slide in directions other than forward, and enhanced hit-specific animations; there is more diversity in gameplay style.
The campaign is set in the 1990s during the first Gulf War and involves new and returning characters in a series of clandestine operations worldwide as they look to unravel a deadly threat at the heart of their agency. Players will be able to enhance their base of operations with money obtained during missions which will allow them to increase their personal and skills for the missions ahead.
The campaign was deeply engaging and while I had thought the finale was setting up an even larger over- the- top chapter, it was nice to see it contained as it was as it fit well and teased future adventures.
The meat and potatoes of the franchise has always been the online play and Black Ops 6 arrives with 16 multiplayer maps as well as two Zombie maps and this does not even address the Warzone content.
With such a large install, players can choose to delete options such as the campaign once completed and simply stick with the multiplayer mode understanding that free seasonal updates will be coming leading up to whatever the 2025 release plans for the franchise are. New maps, modes, weapons, skins, etc. are always welcome and the vast array of weapons and customizations is impressive as are the Zombie missions which returned to a round-based format.
I have been thoroughly engaged with the game since it came out despite having to play it in segments due to a very hectic schedule since it was released.
That being said; Black Ops 6 is a winner and builds upon what makes the franchise so popular and the engaging campaign and multiplayer options make this one the best Call of Duty games ever.
