Killing Time Resurrected has arrived and it is a fun and engaging look back into some of the early days of FPS gaming. Originally made for the 3DO platform and released for Windows in 96; the game blends FPS action with some early video integration as the enemies and cut scenes use real actors which was still a fairly new concept for the time and makes for some nostalgic fun.
Players are tasked with exploring a vast estate and manor and must content with all sorts of enemies such as goons, house staff, Hunters, Clowns, supernatural elements and more.
The game tasks players to not only survive but to solve a mystery and this involves exploration to find items such as keys and other essential items which will grant them access to new areas.
I learned this the hard way at the start when I had to find an invite to enter an area and it required going to a cabin in a remote area and fighting off some unusual enemies including mutant hounds and ducks to gain access to the manor.
Once inside your arsenal which includes a pistol, shotgun, machine, gun, and melee weapon will be needed as the enemies are abundant. Players can select the skill level that is best for them but know that you will likely make liberal use of the map to get around as it is easy to get lost in such a large map. The gameplay unlike many FPS games of the time is not linear in that you do not go from point A to B to C. Backtracking to past areas does arise and you will need patience when exploring as it is easy to get turned around.
Nightdive studios has done a great job with the game as I had not played the original but was instantly transported back to this age of gaming and even without a Multiplayer option; I found myself immersed in the game and enjoying mowing down demonic clowns and whatever else the game threw at me.
This is one that FPS fans will not want to miss as it is a retro classic to enjoy.
