Deadpool & Wolverine Boldy Delivers The Action And Humor Marvel Fans Love And Boldy Brings The Title Characters Into The MCU

The Merc with a Mouth has jumped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Deadpool & Wolverine” and has brought his signature R-rated violence and humor with him to grand new levels.

When Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) finds himself in a spiral in an attempt to have some significance and after experiencing a rejection that places him at rock bottom; he decides to give up Deadpool and go back to being simply Wade Wilson; and accepts a menial job selling used vehicles.

After six mundane years; Wade has accepted his place and while alone; he is happy that he has a small group of friends who come to see him on his birthday including his now ex Vanessa (Morena Baccarin).

Things take a turn when agents from the Time Variance Authority arrive and tell Wade that due to a key loss in his timeline; his world is set to be extinguished in 2000 years and in a matter of mercy; they have decided to speed it up and end things in about 72 hours.

Despite being recruited for other work; Wilson pops back into Deadpool mode and attempts to save his world and his friends. Of course, things do not go as planned and Deadpool attempts to find a Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in a timeline that will be of use to him which results in some great cameos and some truly hysterical moments.

When he finally encounters a Wolverine he thinks will work; they clash frequently as this is a very dour and broken Wolverine and they have to stop their frequent fighting to set aside their issues to escape a void filled with dangerous individuals and save the day.

There are so many cameos and great moments that follow that I will not spoil them but suffice it to say that fans will be laughing, shrieking, and applauding along the way as was the case at our screening.

While there is plenty of very graphic R-rated violence, the film does have some moments where things drag a bit as it was a bit odd having gaps of actual storyline and character development that were not an action sequence or a profanity-laden speech that Deadpool is known for.

Despite this; the film delivers and is in no way toned down under Disney who not only gave the film a large budget but upped the verbal and visceral output including a very humorous sequence set to music.

It does not seem like the summer movie season has fully arrived until we get a Marvel event film and this one delivers exactly what fans want. It was nice to see Jackman back as Wolverine and his gruff and confrontational pairing with Reynolds showed off their natural chemistry which hopefully will see both characters back in the near future as they were a breath of fresh air to re-invigorate the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I am looking forward to what comes next.
