Lisa (Kathryn Newton) is a troubled High School Senior trying to make her way through the challenges of life. After her mother was killed by an Axe Murderer, Lisa was left as a survivor and forced to endure that trauma and her father marrying a shrew who has nothing but contempt for Lisa and wants to have her committed.
Since it is 1989 and the Internet and Social Media are years away; Lisa spends her time reading in a cemetery and working doing alterations around her school work.
Her Step-Sister Taffy (Liza Soberano), is a popular Cheerleader and tries to get Lisa to emerge from her shell and enjoy life.
A freak storm resurrects the occupant of the grave Lisa loves to frequent and sets a chain of events into action. The ghastly figure (Cole Sprouse), becomes a makeover project and best friend for Lisa who in turn becomes bolder and more confident and begins to express herself more via her clothing choices and demeanor.
Unfortunately her friend is also a protector and is not above removing problems in her life via extreme measures and a budding romance adds to the homicidal complications.
Directed by Zelda Williams, “Lisa Frankenstein” features a great cast and some quirky moments and visuals that are unique but bring back memories of classic Tim Burton.
The clever twists on the Teen Angst/Romance genre with a touch of comedic horror combine to make the film a quirky yet enjoyable film that will make you laugh.
