Gamers have always been typified as basement-dwelling nerds but, as we know, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, just about everyone can enjoy a great video game, whether you’re playing mobile games on your phone or perfecting the resolution on your three-screen monitor display. One of the most universally-loved games — regardless of age or gender — has become Nintendo’s quarantine hit, “Animal Crossing.”
The game has inspired countless people to visit their friends’ islands, create fan art, and buy cute merchandise. The game centers around simple gameplay where players are encouraged to build their island from the ground up. Here, they can create a home, water flowers, interact with villagers, and complete simple daily tasks. The popularity of the game has truly invaded almost every avenue of consumer buying, even encouraging some people to buy their own flowers to grow at home. Of course, that doesn’t mean players will automatically know you have to water succulents every two weeks, but it’s been encouraging fun hobbies and better habits both inside and outside of the game during a difficult time.
The most recent promotion? “Animal Crossing” makeup in a partnership with Colourpop.
Colourpop is known for its killer collaborations so this new promotion did not go unnoticed. Previous collaborations include the Star Wars Baby Yoda eyeshadow palette, Mulan makeup, Sailor Moon products, and a collab with “Hello Kitty.” It seems only natural for the pop culture-inspired makeup brand to rub elbows with one of the most popular games of the last decade.
The collaboration is one of Colourpop’s larger collections. There are four villager-themed eyeshadow palettes containing four pans that match a particular islander’s color scheme.
- The Isabelle is a pink-themed palette with a dash of yellow.
- The Blathers and Celeste palette leans toward reddish-brown colors.
- The Tom Nook palette showcases a rich shock of greens with a blue-ish tint.
- And finally, the Mabel palette sports a range of rich purple colors.
In addition to the eyeshadow palettes, the collaboration also contains a new blush, pressed glitters, and Colourpop’s popular shock shadows. There’s also a new range of lip tints designed to make your smile stand out even more. Even though only 35% of people have naturally straight teeth, colors like these can inspire anyone to smile.
And best of all, every new product has adorable packaging and signage featuring your favorite characters. Since 68% of consumers believe that signage says a lot about the company’s quality, this kind of advertising is essential. It’s also a great way to appeal to young fans that would buy anything so long as it has their favorite character’s face on it. For hardcore fans, however, this kind of packaging has the potential to become a collector’s item.
Colourpop is already flooding the internet with advertisements about the launch of the collaboration on January 28th, 2020. In anticipation of the launch, you can even visit Colourpop’s very own island in “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” on January 26th, where the “Queen’s Gaming Collective” will be sharing a Twitch stream.
There’s no word on how long the collaboration will be available; we don’t know whether it’s a limited time offer or a longstanding partnership. However, we know that gamers far and wide will likely want to pick up an item or two.
