This was a nice touch.
To our amazing DOOM Eternal community,
As we come to the end of 2020, the team at id Software would like to share our deepest thanks and appreciation to the millions of players who have supported DOOM Eternal and our studio this year. When we announced our March 20th release date back in January, we never could have anticipated the changes and challenges this year would bring – but your support, patience, and passion through it all has been inspiring. Certainly, the challenges of game development are trivial compared to what many around the world have faced during this pandemic, which is why we appreciate so much your dedication and the opportunity you allow us to provide whatever bit of fun diversion, escape or release DOOM Eternal has been for you.
Our team has now been working entirely from home for nearly 10 months, and while we’ve been disappointed in the related delays to features like Invasion or some of our anticipated mode and content updates for BATTLEMODE, we remain extremely proud of the work we’ve done. Our primary focus has been on the development of our campaign expansions, and we were thrilled with the response to the first of these, The Ancient Gods – Part One. It builds on DOOM Eternal’s extension of the DOOM Universe and challenges players with some of the most engaging combat we’ve created. For players that want DOOM Eternal on-the-go, we’ve also recently released DOOM Eternal for the Nintendo Switch. It was a pleasure to collaborate again with the talented team at Panic Button in delivering another high-quality DOOM experience for this platform.
Looking ahead to next year, we remain ambitious. Our second DOOM Eternal expansion, The Ancient Gods – Part Two, will deliver an epic culmination of the story we started way back with DOOM (2016), so we can’t wait for you to experience all that we have packed into that. In addition to updates like full next-gen support, Switch campaign expansions and other general additions and improvements, our roadmap for next year also represents a commitment to providing more ways to enjoy DOOM Eternal with your friends. Work continues on our Invasion mode, as well as BATTLEMODE additions like new maps, playable demons and a re-vamped competitive structure. We’ve seen tremendous growth in our social communities this year – like our official DOOM Discord channel, our community-run Spicy Demons BATTLEMODE Discord channel and The Slayers Club. We’re excited to support and grow these tremendous communities throughout 2021 with new social features, modes and content that can be enjoyed for many years ahead. If you’re already part of these communities, thank you – you often feel like an extension of our team and we really appreciate all you bring to DOOM Eternal. If you’re not, but are looking for great information or similarly skilled players to compete with, please check out these awesome resources.
As we often say, we have the best fans in gaming and we couldn’t do what we do without your reinforcement and enthusiasm. From everyone at our studio and our Bethesda publishing teams around the world, thank you! We can’t wait to see, talk, and play with you in 2021.
