The Croods are back in a new adventure with “The Croods 2: A New Age”. The prehistoric family is contending with a new environment as they learn that Guy (Ryan Reynolds); has returned to an ideal community set up by friends of his late parents.
This situation does not sit well with Grug (Nicholas Cage), Eep (Emma Stone), Ugga (Catherine Keener), Thunk (Clark Duke), and family as they struggle to fit into a new society with sophistication and advancement.
Their new hosts Hope and Phil Betterman (Leslie Mann and Peter Dinklage); want Guy to be with his childhood friend Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran), and see his new family as uncouth savages.
While the Betterman’s attempt to bring Guy into their society and show how he does not belong with Eep, draws tension between them.
Combine this with Grug having a hard time following the rules of society the basis for chaos and comedy is set.
The film uses a lot of loud humor which is clearly aimed at a younger audience and did not grab my attention in the same way that many Disney and Pixar films do. That being said; the strong cast and animation are entertaining enough to make the film something that younger fans and their family can enjoy as long as you temper your expectations.
