Coming attractions from Hot Wheels! Exciting new cars and tie-ins coming soon. The panel is moderated by Molly Hampton (global marketing manager Mattel). The panel consists of Bryan Benedict (senior manager, vehicles product design), Chris Colangelo (manager, vehicles product design), and Sam Kok (key lead designer, vehicles packaging).
Colangelo, a Comic Con fan, commented that it was great to be “working on the exclusives instead of standing in line for the exclusives.”
Many new designs are tie ins to pop culture. For the 40th anniversary of Empire Strikes Back, Hot Wheels is releasing a diorama of Luke on Dagobah. A lever on the side of the box lifts the X-Wing out of the swamp.
The Hot Wheel Modern Classics series introduces several classics, the 1998 Subaru Impreza, Classic Mercedes Benz, VW Jetta, and a Honda Civic Hello Kitty car. Kok, a big fan of Hello Kitty, was excited to work with Sanrio.
From Marvel Avengers comes Rocket and Hulk in the SUV riding into Asgard. Wonder Woman is getting her own jet plane and car, in gold armor.
Nickelodeon is partnering for a line of Rug Rat cars. Other upcoming cars are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mariokarts, and from Masters of the Universe is a Skelator and He-Man cars. From Overwatch comes Soldier 76, Reaprer, D.Va, and Genji.
