IGN Announces Summer of Gaming Schedule


Lineup to include over three weeks of digital programming, including their exclusive showcase, IGN Expo

Los Angeles, CA, May 26, 2020 – Today, the lineup for IGN’s highly-anticipated Summer of Gaming virtual event was announced. Kicking off Thursday, June 4, IGN’s Summer of Gaming is a free global digital event that will include over three weeks of exclusive programming and gameplay world premieres from highly anticipated titles including Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, Wasteland 3, Mortal Shell, New World, Corepunk, Scarlet Nexus and Mafia: Definitive Edition, as well as new reveals from Cyberpunk 2077. This is just the tip of the iceberg, as there will be many more exciting schedule updates to come.

As part of the lineup, IGN will also host their own publisher and developer showcase, IGN Expo, which will premiere programming and gameplay that can’t be seen anywhere else. This includes anticipated content such as an exclusive unannounced gameplay reveal with The Outsiders’ David Goldfarb, exclusive Bounty of Blood DLC preview with Gearbox Creative Director Matt Cox, gameplay world premiere of System Reaction’s Second Extinction, Amazon’s New World exclusive war PvP gameplay and developer interview, and so much more. Summer of Gaming will also feature spotlight Icon interviews with the likes of David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid), Brian Fargo (Blizzard) and others.

In addition, IGN is raising money for charity in support of the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund by hosting two exclusive events during Summer of Gaming. The first event, the pre-show Speedrunner Countdown Challenge, will take place at the beginning of each day of IGN’s showcase and pits the world’s greatest speedrunners in a race against time as they strive to break world records live as part of IGN’s countdown to their daily Summer of Gaming programming. Speedrunner Countdown Challenge will feature in-depth commentary provided by the speedrun charity organization Games Done Quick.

The second event, Animal Crossing: Celebrity Island Tours will include some of the biggest names in pop culture, taking fans inside the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons to explore guests’ unique islands in a day-long live stream. Animal Crossing: Celebrity Island Tours will include special segments of the viral hit talk show Animal Talking with host and creator Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Book of Eli), which streams on his Twitch channel and can be watched in VOD on his YouTube channel. Guests for this charity live stream include Candice Patton, Simu Liu, Felicia Day, Shannon Woodward, Cliff Bleszinski, Matthew Mercer, Austin Creed, Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast, Jessica Chobot, Lauren Lapkus, Naomi Kyle, the Merrell Twins, Andrea Rene, Alanah Pearce, Arin Hanson of Game Grumps and more.

Top gaming publishers taking part in Summer of Gaming include Ubisoft, Blizzard, Xbox, EA, CD Projekt Red, Funcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Sega, Amazon, 2K, Larian, Systemic Reaction, Bloober, Artificial Core, Cold Symmetry (with publisher Playstack) and more. The global digital showcase will deliver the latest information and impressions around upcoming games and the next generation of consoles, publisher presentations with pre- and post-discussions, remote developer interviews, hands-on demos and preview impressions, gameplay, and news segments recapping the biggest announcements, with both live and on-demand programming. Fans will be able to enjoy this digital event regardless of what device or platform they use, with the programming being accessible across 20 platforms, including desktop, mobile, OTT, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mixer, Twitch, Snapchat Discover, TikTok, and more.
