It is that time again for our favorite games of the year and to award those games that really gave us the most enjoyment during the year.
Game of the Year
Borderlands 3
From the colorful and quirky characters to the lengthy campaign, numerous side missions, online play, and the myriad of weapons. This was by far my favorite gaming experience in 2019.
Shooter of the Year
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
The return of a campaign mode was a big draw for me and once they patched up the launch issues, the numerous multiplayer modes made this one I could not stop playing.
The Co-Op mode has become my favorite and Ground War is lots of fun as well.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Action Game of the Year
While the P.R. firm associated with the game was a nightmare to work with and we all know about the issues E.A. has had; Respawn saved the day with one of the best Star Wars games
to date. Sure the puzzles and timed jumps became frustrating at times but the action, story, and characters as well as the level of details were amazing.
Ion Fury
Retro Game of the Year
Despite a battle over the original name for the game; 3D Realms dusted off the classic Build Engine and gave fans a nostalgic blast of Retro Mayhem.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
Racing Game of the Year
If you are a fan of racing and Crash Bandicoot; this is a perfect match. From the numerous tracks and customizations; this is a great update for the classic original and great for all ages.
Mortal Kombat 11
Best Fighting Game
Mixing blazing action and brutality; MK 11 was everything that fans of the series and fighting games could look for. From a campaign to tons of characters with their own brutal and devastating moves; this was a triumph.
The Division 2
World War Z
Co-Op gameplay of the year
This was a tough one and we ended up with a tie. There were lots of experiences we liked so we took out games that had already been awarded like Borderlands 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as well as updates to games released last year which added new modes and options like Fallout 76.
The Division 2 despite some issues and a company that is hard to work with; provided a nice new chapter in the series with lots of action and a detailed world. I did not like how once the game ended you had to replay many maps again to advance to the new DLC and missions but it does make for a fun experience.
World War Z offered a solid experience not seen since the Left 4 Dead series.
While some modes were a bit clunky at launch the numerous free updates which include new chapters and gameplay modes as well as the pending addition of Cross-Play have made this an experience I enjoy returning to with each new update.
