Greetings & Salutations Folks,
PAX 2019 has been here and gone. With it, some of the biggest names in the industry be it hardware or software converged on Seattle, Washington over the Labor Day weekend to roll out their latest. Whether it was games and tech that would soon be available for die hard gaming fans everywhere or stuff that they were experimenting with and gauging what the public’s thoughts might be on some new ideas, it was here that folks could’ve caught a glimpse of it all.
Although, a few big names were strangely absent from PAX this year, one name that was NOT absent is the powerhouse otherwise known as Bethesda Game Studios AKA Bethesda. The company behind such celebrated franchises as Prey, Fallout, Dishonored, Doom, The Evil Within, and Wolfenstein to name just a few. Although not on site this year, Bethesda had a special gathering for die hard fans and members of the gaming press at one of Seattle’s trendiest nightspots ‘1st & Bell’. It was here, that a select few were given the opportunity to see and preview the latest addition to another celebrated gaming franchise ‘The Elder Scrolls’.
‘The Elder Scrolls-Online’ has been an incredibly popular fan favorite for sometime now. The latest expansion pack based on ‘Elsweyr’ that was announced in January and released in June, has been quite popular even with the general desire among many fans and players that they’d like to see more content and gameplay involving dragons, the games antagonists. After spending the afternoon having the opportunity to see what Bethesda has in store for the future of this particular franchise, I can honestly say I have no doubt that fans will be pleased. Bare with me because I’m not exactly sure what I can or cannot say at this point. The future of the ‘Elder Scrolls’, at least for now, is the release of campaigns that take place several years in the future of the franchise where the player will engage in various quests and battles that center around the ‘dragon menace’. If the glimpse I had the opportunity to try out is any indication fans will be quite pleased with this as the future of the game. The environment and visuals of the game are quite literally works of art in my mind. The content was so rich in visual, audio, storyline content it was almost overwhelming. In a positive way of course.
Being an individual who had not played a game in the franchise in several months due to work, it was an excellent experience ‘returning to that world’ for a brief time. I have heard several journalists that follow gaming talk about how ‘Elsweyr’ itself is great to explore if anything else. This is 100% as I spent half of my time doing that. As far as all the games I got to see at PAX, it is one of the most engaging and the ‘side quests’ are more than enough to keep you playing the game for extended durations if you need to take a breather from the main quests. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the most engaging video games I’ve played in quite some time. Fans will NOT be disappointed. That I am quite certain. The wait will most certainly be worth it.
