Phoenix Labs has revealed Dauntless, a co-op action RPG, will be released into Open Beta worldwide on May 24. The indie studio with veterans from Riot, BioWare, and Capcom had over 100,000 players explore the Shattered Isles universe in the current Closed Beta, with over 700,000 players having already signed up for the Open Beta. At PAX East, we got our hands on the game, and slaying Behemoths is as enthralling and intense as promised.
Players can join up with other players and take down Behemoths together, and a four-player session we had with the developers had us slaying a ravenous Moonreaver. Players can bring their spoils back to the city of Ramsgate to craft new weapons and armor and take on even more fierce beasts.
The Dauntless Open Beta marks the next phase in an ongoing four-year journey of development. The Open Beta arrives as a free-to-play experience with cosmetic and vanity items that players can purchase. There are no paywalls or pay-to-win mechanics within the experience, helping set the tone for games as service in lieu of the lootbox drama that was especially heavy in 2017.
Dauntless will be available to download and play for free on May 24 as part of the Open Beta experience. Players can experience the Dauntless Closed Beta today by purchasing a Founder’s Pack. For more information, and to register your name ahead of the Open Beta, visit www.playdauntless.com.
