Wondercon 2018 brought big crowds of enthusiastic fans and Pop Culture
lovers to the Anaheim Convention Center for three days of news, vendors,
Cosplay, panels, previews, celebrities, and fun.
From the expansive main floor which had offerings from a new Rampage video
games based on the pending movie to the very popular Bob’s Burgers booth
which drew huge lines to see the items on sale and get a picture with the
prop truck, there was something for everyone.
Many popular shows ranging including Timeless, Star Trek Discovery, FEAR
The Walking Dead, Into The Badlands, and many others brought out the stars
and creative talents behind the show to preview what is coming to the
respective shows.
There were also many panels from composers and the digital magicians who
make the impossible a reality as well as panels ranging from all things
Pop Culture.
The new expansion to the Convention Center was open and brought wide
concourses, larger rooms, more space, and a very appealing edition
including a VR area. I was able to experience the very enjoyable four
player Hologate VR where I worked with three other people to defend a base
against an enemy that surrounded us.
Meeting were a big part of our coverage and I started with the Emmy
winning Composers at Dynamic Music Partners and followed that up with a
very enjoyable interactive experience for the new AMC Series: The Terror.
The visit started by entering an enclosure and watching video that
surrounded us. A wall then opened and we were seated in a small boat
replica complete with blowing winds and simulated snow and ice as even
more imagery from the show was presented. Considering it was in a
container surrounded by Food Trucks, the immersive experience was amazing.
I also got to speak with Star Trek legend Nichelle Nichols who was on hand
to promote her new project Noah’s Room and finished the day with a very
enjoyable interview session with the cast and creative talents behind the
pending Warner Bros Animated film “Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay”.
The next day’s brought in even more meetings and interviews such as
Timeless, Into The Badlands, and Fear The Walking Dead and Genevieve was
busy covering panels and taking pictures. There were also screenings of
upcoming episodes and animated movies which made Wondercon 2018 a truly
busy and enjoyable experience from start to finish.
There were so many activities it was impossible to fit them all in as many
events often overlapped, but the panels did not have the massive lines
that are usually found at San Diego Comic Con so fans were often able to
get their first or second choices without having to miss other things by
arriving several hours ahead of their desired panels.
The show continues to grow and bring in even more stars and content each
year and with the 2019 dates of March 29-31 in Anaheim.
