There’s been a real influx of quality superhero themed television in recent years as both DC and Marvel have seen several series based on their properties become popular with fans and critics alike. With so many series finding success, it should not come as a big surprise that other networks are looking to get it on this and as was evident; several new comic inspired series are in the works.
One such series is Krypton which will be coming to SYFY in 2018. During our coverage of San Diego Comic-Con, I was able to attend the panel for this eagerly anticipated series which featured stars and creative talent to talk about the series and answer questions that were posed from members of the audience.
The series is a prequel to the Superman tale and follows Seyg-El who is played by Cameron Cuffe. It is learned that prior to Krypton’s destruction a century or two in the future; the house of El had fallen into disarray and as such Seyg-El was forced to scrap to survive in the streets of the planet. Further complicating matters is that his house is in a bitter feud with the house of Zod and then a pair of star-crossed lovers ala Romeo and Juliet are further complicating the matter.
It was announced that Brainiac and Doomsday, as well as other villains from the future will be interfering with the past in an attempt to stop Superman from ever coming to be. So essentially what you have is an origin story with elements of Romeo and Juliet and the Terminator as well as a drama with romantic themes in context.
A video that was shown illustrates the impressive visuals that the series touts and that the creators are fans of the source material and it definitely attempted to present a more mature and ambitious offering the may associate with comic book based entertainment. Look for the show to make its debut in 2018 on SYFY.
