A Care2 petition hopes to convince Niantic Labs and Warner Bros. Entertainment to create a Harry Potter augmented reality game

Augmented reality game Pokémon Go has quickly become one of the most popular smartphone apps of all time, surpassing Twitter in number of active daily users and Tinder in number of installs. And players and non-players alike want to see the trend continue: A new Care2 petition is urging Pokémon Go creator Niantic Labs to create a Harry Potter version of the game.

The petition is titled “Accio Harry Potter Go: We Want a Harry Potter Version of Pokemon Go!” and was started by Ashtyn Hannon, a 23-year-old Durham, North Carolina resident who calls herself a “huge Harry Potter fan.”

“I don’t play Pokémon Go, but I totally would if there were a Harry Potter version,” Hannon told Care2. “I’ve been a fan of Harry Potter for over 15 years. I think the unparalleled popularity of the Pokémon Go shows that Warner Bros and Niantic labs have a huge opportunity to create a version that features another beloved mystical world.

The petition was inspired in part by a BuzzFeed article, and Twitter users quickly jumped in to voice support.

Hannon says she hopes Niantic acts on her request.

“I hope that Niantic remembers my Care2 petition when considering new projects.”

A separate Care2 petition asking Niantic to remove the Holocaust Museum as a PokéStop has gathered over 13,000 signatures.

    And so it begins.
Pokemon Go has made it’s precedent, now mobile will dominate gaming… The age of utter sadness is upon us.

I do not think that will happen and here is why. First the game is buggy beyond belief. Secondly it burns up the battery like crazy and those who are not on an unlimited data plan are going to get a huge shock when their bills come in. There are always fad games on mobile. Candy Crush, Angry Birds, etc. They are all the rage for a few months and forgotten. Mobile while getting better are simpler games that cannot deliver the complexity and interactivity of console and PC based games. So when people say well tech will get better and they can do that in time. Yes, consoles and PCs will get better. Mobile got better, so now PCs and the PS4 have VR. If you want a good line to compare to look at the arrival of color television. Many said this was the end of cinemas. So cinemas gave people what they could not get at home. Widescreen, Blaxploitation and grittier films, surround sound. TV tech came up with HD TV, Surround Sound, More stations. Cinemas came up with a new level of 3D. Not this converted garbage that so many are and pass themselves off as 3D but the true quality like Avatar was done in. TV attempted 3D it did not go over well. SO theaters also brought in things like food service at your seat, etc.
