Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been the rare feet in Hollywood so far. A film that not only met the amazing amount of hype that was behind it while satisfying fans and the financial expectations of the studio.
With a masterful first entry into the sequel trilogy, J.J. Abrams has set the bar high for Episode VIII and even the stand alone films to aspire to. While Director Rian Johnson prepares to film Episode VIII in March of 2016 and as such fans will be eager to see if several questions raised in The Force Awakens will be answered or if they will have to look to Episode IX and the new Expanded Universe from Disney to answer questions.
With that in mind, here are some of the biggest questions from The Force Awakens and naturally, they would be considered spoilers if you have not seen the film yet.
1. Who are Rey’s parents?
She has Force ability, was left on an isolated planet to protect her from a Dark Evil, and has a bit of a temper. Sound like any Skywalker you know? Note that the sleeping R2-D2 lit up like a Christmas tree the moment she came into the picture and she also seems to have uncanny piloting skills.
2. Who is Supreme Leader Snoke?
He is obviously, dark, powerful, and likely a user of the Dark Side, but how he came to be when Luke and his father essentially ended the Sith is up to speculation, especially from those who say he could be Darth Plagueis alive and well. For me it is a matter that as long as there are Force enabled beings, the option to go to the Dark side will always be there. Just without a Sith Master to take an apprentice. Hence why Snoke is big on Kylo Ren.
3. Where were the main forces of the Republic when The First Order formed and started to be aggressive?
Knowing what the Empire was and what it stood for, I wonder how The First Order was able to form, grow, and build up weapons of mass destruction. One would think that the New Republic would have something larger than a Resistance Group to take them on and end a potent threat, especially when they started using their new toy.
4. Why didn’t the Resistance evacuate Leia to safety when there was a real threat to her?
Just like in Episode IV, Leia stayed at her post with firing range approaching. One would think though that with what was on the line they may have considered moving her off planet in the case of a tragedy.
5. Will Kylo Ren find redemption and where are the rest of the Knights of Renn?
It seems poised to be a repeat of the tale of Anakin Skywalker as the young man is seduced by an evil and powerful Dark Force user and struggles with the good he has left in him and the raging anger of the Dark Side. I do not think this will be as tidy as we have seen prior.
6. Luke going into hiding is a bit of an overreaction.
Snoke and the First Order want to wipe out the Jedi and as such Luke decides to hide due to what happened with Kylo Ren. One would think that is not the time to quit but to build up as many Jedi as can be trained as the galaxy needs a new lineage of guardians. Quitting after a tragic setback does make one think that Luke never fully addressed the issues that Yoda had with him.
7. What role will Finn play going forward?
There is more than a hint of attraction between Rey and Finn at the end of the film and as such one has to wonder what the future holds for the two. Many assumed Finn was a latent Force users but perhaps his story of being taken as a child and trained for the First Order is all there is to his story. One would ask though why his training did not take. General Hux angrily shoots down the notion of using clones again in favor of his men and training. Finn seems to have managed to make it through training, yet would not follow the path he was trained for when he was put into action.
I am sure more question will arise, but those are the main points that I came up with so I would be eager for your thoughts and ideas.
