Since the year 2006, a lot has happened. 12 movies in the marvel cinematic universe have been released to the delight of movie goers worldwide and literally earning billions of dollars. 6 Paranormal Activity movies have also come out to the delight of hundreds of people while literally earning thousands of dollars. And Square Enix wrote checks its body couldn’t cash.
Seriously! What happened to Final Fantasy versus XIII?
Instead of coming out shortly after the flagship title Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix somehow managed to squeeze out 2 direct sequels to Final Fantasy XIII making it a trilogy of disappointment.
Versus XIII was supposed to be everything the core version wasn’t. More open exploration with airship traveling and a chance at redemption. After years without any info about development progress of the most interesting game in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, the name Versus XIII disappeared like vapor. Then it became clear that like “The Last Guardian”, this game was never going to come out.
An entire console generation later and an official name change/upgrade to a core title, Final Fantasy 15 may be the most promising Final Fantasy game in over a decade.
In fact the wait has given way to evolution. I have played many hours of episode duscae and many more hours of its patch episode duscae 2.0.
The Final Fantasy demo reminds me the metal gear solid 2 demo for PS2. Its the second time in my life that I purchased a full price video game just to get a taste of what I really wanted to play. Though I actually enjoyed Zone of the enders, I haven’t given FF Type-0 much of my time.
Other than an extremely long development cycle for this game, something else is different. To my knowledge this is the first JRPG being developed with the game creators converting fan feedback into real gameplay changes. The end result will hopefully be the series return to greatness.
FF XV is my most anticipated game of 2016 and I can’t wait until March to hear more details about this soon to be masterpiece.
