LIMBO is a minimalist 2D sidescroller that is best played with headphones. The sound effects elevate the scares and the tension beyond the games eye catching monochrome visuals. All the game asks of the player is to transverse the shadows and some light puzzles solving. It’s a short game but a memorable one.
Five Nights at Freddy’s (Android and iOS)
Five Night’s at Freddy’s is a survival horror point-and-click adventure game that pit players against animatronic animals that become homicidal after the store closes. Players control a security guard as he/she attempts to escape by checking the animal’s movement via security cameras.
The Room (Android, iOS and Windows)
While The Room is more of a puzzle game its arcane story deals with dark forces and alternative story lines. The game presents a tense atmosphere, but offers little to no scares for the skittish. The game prompts players to solve puzzles in boxes that unlock more puzzles boxes within each box. A variety of touchscreen and motions will be needed to complete most of the challenges.
The Walking Dead (Android, Kindle and iOS)
The critically successful The Walking Dead adventure game from Telltale Studios is also available on mobile devices. Based on the comics instead of the AMC television show, it allows players to control the character Lee Everett as he attempts to protect a little girl in the zombie apocalypse. The episodic series is not short on scares and offers some of the most difficult moral decisions seen in video games.

Dead Space for mobile is a sci-fi third-person shooter that bares resemblance to both the Alien films and The Thing. The Dead Space series got its start of consoles, but its action transfers decently enough to tablet devices with touchscreens controls. Narratively, this title takes place after the first Dead Space, but before Dead Space 2.

Year Walk is an unsettling game where players can expect plenty of mind twists.
