With the release of Windows 10 and a series of bigger, more demanding, and impressive games set to launch later this year, many gamers are looking to upgrade their systems to increase their performance.
Kingston has stepped up to the task with their HyperX Savage 16GB 1866Mhz memory kit. The system contains two 8GB chips that are clad in a protective red heat guard which allows for greater safety during the installation process and a greater degree of performance free from overheating.
The installation was very fast and to be honest, it took longer to get the case back on and screwed into place than it did to get the two chips into place.
Windows booted up as normal and I at first did not notice much difference than when the system was running under an 8GB setup, that is until I reached the desktop.
Usually there is a wait of a minute or two when reaching the desktop for various programs to load. With the new memory in place, this only took a few moments and I was browsing my desktop applications in no time.
I noted how much faster slider images loaded especially on news sites where they make you click through various news stories where each image often comes with its load times. The test also worked well on our sliders as I looked up some recent Holiday Gift Guides and noted how much faster the loads were even though they were quick to begin with.
Gaming is the real test for us and we put the memory to work on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, EVOLVE, Grand Theft Auto V, and were blown away by the performance.
We are not one to spout off numbers as the real test as far as I am concerned is in the performance and not the technical stats but not only did the games load faster, the experience was sharper, faster, and free from any momentary lags or pauses.
Call of Duty ran faster to the point that I had to adjust the mouse as I now found the reaction times to fast. The big win was Grand Theft Auto 5 where load times were much better and there were no skips or hesitations during the heavy traffic moments and action in the online mode. I pushed it to the limits by doing all sorts of mayhem fueled missions and never once did I find any hesitations or issues. The same could not be said when playing the game under 8MB.
As we move forward to Windows 10 and games such as Star Wars Battlefront, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, and many other pending titles, we will really give the memory a workout and see how it does but for now, it is a very high performing memory at a price that makes it very easy for us to recommend.
