One of the best things about covering E3 aside from seeing all the great new games up close and getting hands on time with the best of the upcoming games is finding a surprise that was not expected. One such game is Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
My wife is a big fan of the series and played the two original games that the series is based upon and was thrilled when Sony game away the first Garden Warfare during the Playstation Showcase in Las Vegas last year.
It was revealed that the Zombies have built their own society and as such have made things very tough for the plants. With 8 new character classes joining the previous ones, Garden Warfare 2 offers fans a bigger and better gaming experience.
Players can transfer their characters form the first game over and can also play solo and split screen without an online service on consoles as well as against bots or other custom modes.
The new maps shown had a theme park, space locale, frozen venue, and a time hopping locale complete with an attack on Sphinx like object.
The new Zombie classes shown involved a Pirate with a laser eye equipped parrot who has a shotgun attack up close and a sniper attack at range, one who using robot suits, and an 80s action star Zombie.
The plants showed a Rose unit, Kernel Corrn and a few others who also wear flower pots as armor.
Being able to play the developers was a real treat and I was happy that I had the best round of my life with this build.
I was able to plant defensive units that healed, shot fire, rockets, and other weapons as we withstood numerous waves of enemy attacks. I was able to alternate my energy blasts with a spinning attack playing as the 80s Zombie actor and cut the attacking plants down to size.
The landscape of the map was at times enhanced by gifts/traps from Crazy Dan which at one point spawned enemies and another a power up.
At the end of multiple waves, we went back to an evacuation zone where I and my team survived a final assault and made a safe retreat to battle again.
Fast, funny, and furious, with tons of new options, chiropractors, maps and features would be enough to get excited for, but the promise of free DLC and great gameplay were even more reasons to look forward to this great looking game.
