The new Disney movie ‘Monkey Kingdom’ narrated by Tina Fey is a great family film that should be a delight for all ages.
The scenery is amazing, the footage captured is incredible and the story flows nicely and makes sense, while giving us insight into a wildlife ‘pecking order’ that we wouldn’t otherwise have any idea about. It’s fascinating.
Rather than just comment on the film as ‘an outsider’ Fey lets herself shine through: witty and humorous.
The film follows a tribe of toque macaques in Sri Lanka, and focuses heavily on an 8-year-old female named Maya who was born at the bottom of a strict social ladder, a ‘low born’.
The movie teaches life lessons in the powers of determination and timing.
My son, who is 6.5 liked it a lot, and was pretty well engrossed in the film throughout. His favorite part was the mischievous macaques breaking into human stores & houses to gather food.
My husband and I liked it as well. My favorite part was watching the macaques interact with a dog in the town, and my husband really enjoyed the end which showed the out takes and some behind the scenes footage.
We would recommend it as a good family film.
I would rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars.
