Many times we are presented with new hardware to review that we are told will take our visuals, sound, game controls, and so on to new levels. While we have been fortunate that most of them have been good and solid devices, the sad truth is that far too often they are just new devices that offer performance similar to others we have tested and do not offer up that much in the way of significant difference.
With the SLYR gaming headset from Skullcandy, we have finally found a solid and affordable headset for the Xbox One that delivers the high end sound of more expensive units, but also one that provides comfort no matter how long you wear it.
The green and black unit is lightweight yet comfortable and the microphone can go into what is called “Stealth Mode” in that it can be retracted at the wearer’s discretion. The GMX-1 mixer is a very nice touch as this is a great addition as it allows users to moderate in game voice and volume settings on the fly. So no longer will gamers have to have their voice messages to other members of their team drowned out by a barrage of gunfire and explosions.
Obviously sound is the key in any gaming headset and the SLYR had solid base and high end sounds in games, but also worked great for music and movies as the sound settings could be easily adjusted for the different formats, as let’s be honest, there are some times when you want less bass and other times when you want more.
In the end, when you combine the comfort, sound quality, and performance of the SLYR for the Xbox One, you will be impressed with the performance for the price and will likely be very glad you purchased this solid device from Skullcandy.
