In the new film “Chappie” we learn some interesting things about what we will see in 2016. Although I am under embargo until tomorrow in regards to our review for the film, I did find it interesting that the PS4 system plays a fairly important role in the film.
In a world where police robots have become the norm, the PS4 system provides a use the developers had not intended.
Now before you take it too seriously, understand that this is a satirical piece and in no way is designed to say that the system is to be used in this manner. When Chappie is able to obtain a few units of the top-selling system, he is able to link them all with one another and a PC to create a network which is key to a project he is working on as well as for the plot of the film.
The film was released by Sony/Columbia so it stands to reason that Vaio and the PS4 would be featured and they were in abundance throughout the film.
What I found most curious is that rather than obtaining and linking a series of PCs for the needed project, multiple PS4 systems sufficed which is an indication by Sony that the system has enough memory and CPU ability that when several are linked and joined with a laptop, complex calculations can be obtained without the need of a complex computer system and network.
When I saw Chappie carrying the systems, I figured we would be given a scene where he was playing a recent or upcoming exclusive for the system rather than using the gaming system for other purposes.
I guess this is Sony’s way of saying that the PS4 is more versatile and capable than we first thought and it is capable of being much more than simply a gaming system.
What is also funny is that a large supply of the system was in the hands of a criminal element and the group in question requested and accepted multiple systems as part of their compensation which implied that there is still a high demand for the system in 2016 to the point that some elements or hording them.
Regardless of what the future holds for the system, in the near future of 2016, The PS4 certainly made the life of one robot and his associated that much better.
Look for our full review for “Chappie” to be posted when our embargo lifts tonight.
