As the Seattle Seahawks completed one of the most remarkable comebacks in playoff history, I noted how Richard Sherman was battling on despite an elbow injury. Sherman had interceptions in both of the playoff games this year and his Pro-Bowl selection confirmed that he is once again one of the best if not the best player in his position according to coaches and his peers.
Taking this all in, I thought to myself, well I guess this proves the Madden Curse is gone as far as he is concerned. Regardless of what is to come in the championship, I would think that his season and the Seahawks could only be a success by any measuring stick, and as such it does tend to say that his appearance on the cover of the latest Madden game has not cursed him with the bad luck that has often been associated with players who have graced the cover of the game.
Garrison Hearst, Dorsey Levens, Daunte Culpepper, Michael Vick, Shaun Alexander, Vince Young, Peyton Hills, and Adrian Peterson are just a few examples of players who graced the cover of the game only to be hampered by a bad season or other issues the following year or shortly after appearing on the cover.
Sherman did injure his elbow in the last game but reports are that the X-rays were negative and he will be playing in two weeks.
It will be interesting to see going forward if Sherman is an exception to the rule or if the curse continues, but for now, it appears to have missed this season.
