I have to admit that I wasn’t very excited about seeing Star Wars Rebels. After watching and being completely disappointed with the whole animated Clone Wars series, that had 6 seasons and can be found on Netflix. Anyway, off to the theater and as soon as the lights dimmed and the classic Star Wars music started, I was hooked yet again.
Opening up with the Empire bullying a vendor in a small market by accusing him of treason and taking him into custody you get to see how the common resident is handled by the Empire. Right off the bat you get the whole Disney feel for the show and it carries throughout. From the eyes of the characters to some of the humor sprinkled here and there. The realism that you see in the details of the show really does spark that rebel spirit in us all.
This was surprisingly a treat, crossing my fingers the whole time hoping that the characters wouldn’t break out into a song which was a concern now knowing that Disney now owns Star Wars, a franchise that I have been in love with since I was a kid. Thankfully, no singing, at least not this time so memories of the Star Wars Holiday Special can be pushed back again.
Great character development and you can see that it will continue as the seasons roll on as I am hoping that this series will bridge that gap between Episode III to IV. The Rebels have a good grip on what will become to the Empire and the rebuilding of the Jedi Order now that the temple was destroyed. This series will follow a small band of a Bounty Hunter, Twelik, a cowboy (Jedi) teacher, a few droids, and an apprentice.
Make sure you tune into this animated series, this is a must see for any Star Wars fan out there.
