During our coverage of PAX Prime 2014, I was able to get more hands on time with the upcoming Alien Isolation. I had played the game at E3 and covered it at San Diego Comic Con, but this time I was able to have an extended play session on a new map. I had previously played a survival run where the Alien had me pinned in a storage area almost from the start.
This time out I was able to explore a bit with the Alien not making an appearance and I was captivated by the incredible attention to detail really made me think that I had stepped into the film series. While exploring I made sure to keep an eye on my motion tracker for any unwanted visitors as I was armed only with a wrench.
The mission had me moving along dark corridors as I made my way to a central station to restore power. As I moved through several rooms and ducked into lockers I kept wondering where the Alien was as I knew it would be lurking. When I powered up the systems, a cut scene started that showed the creature pouring itself from a vent similar to the T-1000 in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”.
Amanda took cover under a console and the Alien teased her by probing near her with it’s tail before fleeing from the room.
I made my way to a dark corridor and noted that I was stuck as the creature was on the main walkway and had a sealed door to the right and a long open corridor to the left. I had hoped that I had a chance to cut a lock with my welder as I had earlier to open a door, but something told me that Mr. Teeth was not going to wait for me to open a new door so it could go off and explore.
Pacing in a short hallway, I ducked from hiding when the creature went away from me as I had hoped a locker would be near as according to the map I was not far from my exit.
Sadly there was no locker to provide me a safe hiding area when I emerged from my hiding area and the angry hiss behind me indicated that the creature was in hot pursuit. I attempted to outrun the creature when the exit was in sight and lacking any place for cover it was my only hope.
Sadly a spike tail through the stomach ended my mission but I had gone almost to the end of the level as the desired room tauntingly loomed before me.
