“Sleepy Hollow” Season 2 is still a little over a month away but fans should be very excited for what is to come. Revealed at the series panel at San Diego Comic Con last month, we know Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow will be longer with 5 more episodes than the original series. Yes, that’s 18 opportunites to be sigh over Tom Mison’s sexy British accent as he plays Ichabod Crane and wonder about the chemistry between him and the feisty Abbie Mills, played beautifully by Nicole Beharie.
Fans can also expect to see other notable historical characters, so you may want to bone up on your history. But don’t get too caught up in true details! There’s lots of “twistory” coming, as one of the producers put it. Fans are going to see a lot of Benjamin Franklin, who has an uneasy relationship with Crane. Benedict Arnold will also make an appearance.
After doing a panel with the show producers and John Noble on Friday, Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie, Orlando Jones, Lyndie Greenwood, and Katia Winter returned to the con on Saturday to pose for pictures, field more questions and walk through the Sleepy Hollow exhibit at Petco Park’s Interactive Zone. The exhibit housed a 3D Oculus Rift experience that allowed fans to be part of a live action performance by Mison and “Headless”, shot on the “Sleepy Hollow” set with a 360 camera and integrated into a real-time virtual environment.
What I thoroughly enjoy about this cast is individually and as an ensemble, they do not take themselves too seriously. Any serious, thoughtful answers, inevitably ends with a funny anecdote or humorous observation. When Mison was asked how playing Ichabod Crane has been the hardest role he’s ever had to play, Mison explained, “Because there are lots of layers to him. The line between them is such a fine one. It would be very easy to go down the comedy route, or the very earnest route and it’s just finding a balance between them..and it’s finding the shift and the nuances…within that. That’s a challenge.” We also learned Crane learns to drive in Season 2, and Mison’s proudest moment to date was making a stunt coordinator squeal during filming.
Orlando Jones, who is very adept at making people laugh, sarcastically thanked the show’s writers for helping him avoid stereotypes when his character, Captain Frank Irving, ended up incarcerated at the end of Season 1. On an even less serious note, when asked to pick a side in the battle between Batman and Superman, Bloom argued it was a nearly impossible choice because “You have sex with Batman, but you marry Superman.”
With a beautiful cast that has great chemistry in spades as well as interesting storylines that give you a different take on history – and this time with more episodes – Sleepy Hollow fans have much to look forward to come September 22 when the show returns to Fox for Season 2. Until then, if you want to catch up on Season 1 and you didn’t DVR it, you’ll only find it on Hulu+, which acquired the exclusive streaming rights to Season 1 episodes.
