Non-Traditional Christmas Films You May Love

With the Holiday Season upon us, millions of people are taking advantage of the abundance of seasonal films available on television, Netflix, Redbox, and numerous other means of watching films.

Without a doubt, there are numerous selections to chose from ranging from animated, traditional, and more modern offerings but finding something that you have not seen countless times can be a real trick as can finding something that is a bit edgier and not so overly sentimental.

With that in mind, here is a list of films involving Christmas that you might not think of as Holiday films but will be worth checking out.

Prometheus.
Yes it is a semi prequel to “Aliens” and has its share of gore and violence. However the Prometheus lands on Christmas Day, a fact that the ships Captain not only mentions but is seen putting up a Christmas Tree shortly after emerging from a 2+ year Cryosleep.

Die Hard
For all the bombs, bullets and blood that made this film so enjoyable for action fans. Let us not forget that it takes place during an office Christmas party gone horribly wrong. Bruce Willis gets into the holiday spirit after dispatching his first bad guy by dressing in him a Santa costume and a sign touting his new machine gun and signing off with Ho Ho Ho.

Lethal Weapon
Mel Gibson sets the tone early in the film as his character takes down bad guys in a Christmas Tree lot. The film shifts into high gear with many other seasonal settings including a classic fight on a decorations filled lawn.

Gremlins
As the town quickly falls under the influence of the title characters let us not forget that the setting is a nice snow covered town during the holidays and that Gizmo himself was intended as a Christmas present.

Silent Night Deadly Night

There have been several film in this series but the original take of a homicidal maniac dressing as Santa and terrorizing the locales is a horror classic. From the rack on a rack scene to the headless sled ride this film is not for the kids.
