Sony Pictures Entertainment and Overbrook Entertainment have acquired the film rights to Hasbro’s classic world conquest strategy board game “Risk”.
In the multi-million copy selling game, players compete on a map of the world, amassing armies and attempting world domination. Variations have seen the settings vary from various periods in world history to even the surface of the moon.
Brian Goldner, Bennett Schneir and James Lassiter will produce.
The project marks yet another Hasbro board game property currently in early film development, joining the likes of Michael Bay’s “Ouija,” Ridley Scott’s “Monopoly,” Gore Verbinski’s “Clue,” Peter Berg’s “Battleship,” and Kevin Lima’s “Candy Land”.
I made an April Fool joke this year about Terrence Malick’s “Scrabble”, now I fear it may happen as there’s only a few Hasbro board games left untouched. What next – Ed Zwick’s “Stratego”, Tony Scott’s “Cranium”, J.J. Abrams’ “Pictionary” or Ron Howard’s “Trivial Pursuit”?
