Our 2005 Game of the year winner F.E.A.R. is about to get better with the pending release of the add on pack, Extraction Point. Recently I got the chance to speak with Tim Hall from Vivendi Universal about the highly anticipated F.E.A.R. Extraction point, which is shaping up to be the must have title for the Fall. I want to thank Tim and Stephanie for doing this interview for us.
With the success of the first game, how hard was it to improve upon the gameplay and story for the next chapter?
The F.E.A.R. story is one that we’d been thinking through for such a long time, that an expansion pack was always in the works – it’s not that we felt we had to “improve” on the gameplay or storyline, because those things definitely speak for themselves. But what we did have to be concerned about was making sure that the story and gameplay offered additional opportunities for players who knew the game inside and out. There had been so much content we wanted for the first game, we knew we couldn’t possibly fit it all in, so that made room for a great follow up, which is F.E.A.R. Extraction Point.
What is the background and setting of the game?
Extraction Point starts right where the original F.E.A.R. left off. But now, once the hunter, you are now the hunted and your new mission is simple, survive. The Replicas are no longer your only nemeses, as powerful supernatural entities are wreaking havoc on everything and anything that crosses their path. You are trapped in a desolated city and your road to freedom hinges on the ability to destroy all that get in your way.
What new weapons will be featured in the game and will vehicles be included?
Without going into too much detail to spoil any surprises, there will be three new hyper-destructive weapons to destroy everything in your path. We have already shown the Minigun. which kicks ass.
What type of multiplay will the game offer?
Have you downloaded COMBAT yet? 😉
What are some of the enemies players will face and how many new enemy units will be featured?
There are several new Replicas, as well as the really nasty Shadow Creatures.
The A.I for F.E.A.R. was amazing, what are some of the new features and abilities players can look forward to in Extraction Point?
The A.I. reacts to new environments by flanking and actively taking cover, it’s going to definitely challenge even the most skilled F.E.A.R. players.
What are some of the locales that will be featured in the game?
Subways, a church, construction sites.. And that’s all I can tell you for now!
