Has Microsoft Vs Sony Become The New Cola War

Back in high school I clearly remember the ongoing battle between Coke and Pepsi in what eventually became known as the Cola Wars. Coke was the established veteran on the soda circuit that marketed tradition as their biggest selling point. Pepsi on the other hand was a brash and bold contender to the throne who relied on appealing to consumers as a hipper, fresher, and next-generation choice for consumers.

I always found this very amusing especially around the Super Bowl when both sides would unleash their multimillion dollar ad campaigns. Personal preferences aside, Coke was and has remained the best-selling soft drink company in the world, and to me the notion of spending billions of dollars to remain firmly entrenched at number two seemed crazy to me. Of course I understand it’s all about increasing market share, public opinion, and countless other factors but if you were a fan of one drink over another note amount of add campaigns are likely to make you override your personal preferences.

So here we are in the new millennium, and Microsoft and Sony have become a high-tech version of Coke versus Pepsi. You have two gigantic corporations with billions of dollars in assets who battle it out with one another for supremacy in the console market. Both sides have very passionate supporters who take even the most perceived slights against their beloved console is an all-out declaration of war and often let their hearts and passion’s dictate their actions. It used to be said never discuss religion or politics as a fight was sure to ensue. As anyone who has ever written an opinion piece can tell you, writing about the pros or cons of any console is sure to unleash a torrent of debate and venom that rivals anything from the 2012 Presidential campaign.

If you are a fan of the PlayStation, you have likely Artie made up your mind at the PlayStation 4 is the console that you’re going to be getting at launch and the millions of dollars that Microsoft will spend on ad campaigns will likely do little to change your opinion. The same is true for supporters of the Xbox who have their reasons for supporting the console and regardless of what Sony says or produces all passionately support the latest offering from Microsoft. This is consumerism 101. Both Microsoft and Sony have spent enormous amounts of money grooming consumers to their products. Phrases such as brand awareness, customer loyalty, and customer retention are key aspects of their marketing strategies. If you love the PlayStation 3, then Sony is confident that she will be a purchaser of their new system just as Microsoft anticipates Xbox 360 supporters to be the ones to eagerly embrace their new offering.

It is the folks that are in the middle, the so-called battleground customers that are essential to both companies. The consumers who pick one console over the other, the consumer who normally doesn’t buy new consoles at launch, the more casual consumers who are content with their current gaming options, and others who are undecided are where the real focus will come.

Both sides will tout features, exclusive titles, the hipness, fun, and excitement of their systems. Both sides will spend enormous amounts of money on advertising to convince you to come on over to their side, and that failing to do so will leave you on the outside looking in.

To me it’s a clear-cut case of loyalties and priorities. I will be getting both systems but I have been on record as saying that the PlayStation 4 is the one that we will be getting first simply due to years of positive experiences with Sony products and numerous issues with the Xbox 360 prior to the release of the slim unit.

Now Nintendo of course is still a factor in this but to me they’re kind of like the RC Cola in the mix as the disappointment of the Wii U to date, has made them an afterthought for many in the battle for console supremacy until they make strides forward with their pending titles.

So in the end like so many things in our great country, it comes down to choice. Personal preferences and loyalties versus Madison Avenue and the high-powered marketing machines of both companies. Regardless of who comes out the vector when the final bell rings, I think the next generation console wars is going to be one epic ride.

Has Nintendo Already Become An Afterthought In the Next Generation Battle

As our Deluxe Edition of the Wii U sits idle on our console shelf, I have to ask myself if the system today is not one of the biggest disappointments ever for new entertainment system. Things become so bad that previously announced titles such as Aliens: Colonial Marines may not even release for the system at all despite being touted as one of the launch titles. As we wait for the upcoming slate of releases which will hopefully reinvigorate the system I found myself asking if the Wii U is destined to replace the infamous GameCube is the biggest disappointment in Nintendo history.

The GameCube is cited by many that we have spoken to as the one Nintendo console that people did not bother to purchase. When asked for reasons, they cited better performance on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox systems as well as a lack of any real must own titles for the system. Even hard-core Nintendo fans were hard-pressed to show a lot of love for the system and its disappointment led the way to the innovations of then Wii that jumpstarted Nintendo solidly back into the home entertainment picture.

The new system has been met with lower-than-expected sales as well as a less than enthusiastic response from those early purchasers of the system. I myself was not overly impressed with the system when I first saw it at E3 in 2011, but repeated exposure to the system as well as hands-on time with it prior to launch, convince me that perhaps this is a good system for entertaining guests and Nintendo exclusives.

My disappointment with ZombiU aside, the only game that I found myself really enjoying is the new super Mario Brothers, and that quickly became stale after about 10 hours of gameplay. My wife and I found Little Big Planet 2, and Little Big Planet Karting to give us better gameplay experience than what we’ve seen to date from the Wii U. I am anxiously awaiting their upcoming games including new entries into the Zelda, Mario Kart, and hopefully Starfox franchises, but with both Microsoft and Sony preparing to launch their new consoles, I worry that Nintendo could find themselves being overlooked very quickly by gamers who might already have abandoned the Nintendo ship for good.

While it is still early in the life of the console, Nintendo needs to step up fast and ensure that this holiday season will offer a greater range of options further new system or I fear that the WIII U will be making a rapid slide into obscurity in 2014 from gamers who eagerly embrace the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Aside from new games that gamers actually want to play, Nintendo can take advantage of a competitive price point that needs to be lower to attract gamers. If the rumors are true that the next Call of Duty title is being designed only for PCs and next-generation consoles, Nintendo needs to ensure that the Wii U is part of those plans. Gamers are not going to accept watered-down versions of games that graphically cannot compete with the other systems, and do not offer the same online or in game experience that they can get elsewhere. Exclusive titles can only go so far but they are the drawing points for any system.

While there is still time for Nintendo to turn it around, I believe the upcoming holiday season will be the make or break time frame for Nintendo as they cannot afford to become an afterthought in the next generation discussion which I believe they are rapidly in danger of becoming.

Launch Issues That Could Doom The Playstation 4 That Must Be Avoided

With the pending release of the Playstation 4 gaming console it goes without saying that there will be much interest and scrutiny leading up to, and beyond the release of the console.

Playstation 3 enthusiasts are likely to be early purchasers of the system as will tech heads that have to have the latest gizmos upon release regardless of their affiliation and interests.

I remember the anticipation leading up to the launch of the “Star Wars” prequels, and never once did anyone even consider the possibility that the new films would not meet expectations and would in fact disappoint. With that in mind, I decided to take a look at things that Sony must avoid at all costs with the Playstation 4 in order to ensure a successful launch and long term viability for the system.

First and foremost, the new system must be stable upon launch. There is nothing more annoying than setting up a new system and finding out that it has issues connecting online, enabling 3D, synching a control, or loading and playing a game.

It seems like such a common sense issue to avoid but the first impression many gamers need to have is a positive one based on happy interaction with a unit, not calls and e-mails to a tech support department.

Have an adequate supply of games and accessories at launch. It can be hard enough to get a console when it first releases, do not make gamers have to be waitlisted for additional controls and games.

The Wii had this issue as did Rock Band as there was a severe shortage of controls available to the public, and gamers can be a fickle bunch. If they invest in a product, they expect to be able to play it that day and do not want to have to wait for supplies to catch up to demand.

Quality as well as quantity when it comes to gaming is essential. It is not enough to have several games at launch, it is important to have several games that we will actually want to play. Do not flood us with casual games that look to be only slight improvements over their Playstation 3 counterparts, give us bold and inventive games that make even the most skeptical gamers clamor for the system.

Also make games easy for new players to enter into the franchise. There are those who have not played Infamous, Killzone, or other signature Playstation series. Give them a reason to be excited about the new exclusives and craft games that players can enter a series without the impression that they are at a disadvantage for not having played previous entries in the series.

Make social networking easy, secure, and interesting for all gamers, not just the younger and hardcore audience. I think of people like my wife, mother, and sister. Make it so easy that my mother could use it, but interesting enough that a casual gamer will want to explore.

I can see myself sharing gameplay experiences with readers, listeners, friends, and fans but will a person who is a casual player have much interest in this? I know it is a good way for players to view a game before they make a purchase, but ensure that they can not only make and share videos, but give them a reason to want to do so.

The online experience must be secure as the Playstation 4 and Sony cannot handle a hacking issue. If you expect gamers to share their online experiences then they must know that they can connect easily in a safe and reliable fashion and that they can have a reasonable expectation to be able to easily match up with others gamers.

I think back to 007 Legacy and how one would often wait 5-10 minutes just to be able to join a match. This cannot happen as if there is not a quick match, I like many other gamers will not wait around.

Make motion control and the touch pad and exciting and vital part of the game. Do not be like the Wii and make what was an interesting technology quickly become a gimmick.

Just because you can include motion control and touch ability in a game does not require that all games have this ability. If it enhances the gameplay, then great I am all for it, but do not force it upon me with every game that comes out.

Finally make sure the system is affordable. I do not want to see a $600 console at launch. The Wii U was about right at $400 for the deluxe model. This is a reasonable rate as lets be honest, manufacturers lose money on the system and make money on accessories, games, and other factors. Do not turn the shining example of free online console gaming into a “pay for play” system where every online factor requires additional cash outlays.

We will be getting some hands on time with the system at E3 this June but until then, gamers will debate the new system as well as the pending system by Microsoft endlessly and I think both systems can benefit by following the suggestions I listed above.

Hyperkin AK Striker Control Review

As anyone who’s ever attempt to play a shooter using a motion control device can attest to a steady hand is a key element to a successful outcome. Unfortunately an involuntary twitch at the wrong time can often spell disaster for gamers who’ve invested a lot of time and energy into a game. Thankfully for owners of the PlayStation 3, Hyperkin has come up with an effective, stylish, and practical solution for those wishing to use their PlayStation Move controller’s.
The Hyperkin AK Striker is a sturdy gun controller that allows gamers to equip their Move wanted and directional control into the rifle designed unit for increased performance and accuracy.

Modeled after the AK-47 assault rifle, the sturdy unit features an adjustable stock as well as a collapsible control cradle. There are three modes of fire, single shot, burst, and automatic, which can be selected by easily accessible thumb switch. The unit also comes with four PlayStation control buttons discretely placed on the back body of the unit which makes them easily accessible.

The wand controller that sturdily and securely into the unit although it did take me a second to get accustomed to the release points on the protective cover as well as the art of threading the wand wrist strap through the opening in the controller.

After running through two of the Resident Evil Chronicle rail shooters, I put the controller through its paces on Goldeneye Reloaded.

While it did take me a bit of adjustment to get used to actually having to control the movement of the character in game with the directional control the calibration of the unit was smooth and offered a degree of accuracy unparalleled. When it comes to shooting games I often prefer to play on the PC over console as I find the mouse and keyboard a more natural method of control which allows me a much faster response time. Far too often with a standard console game pad I find myself having to over correct or fire multiple shots rather than quickly and accurately dispatch opponents. With the AK Striker I was easily able to lock on to the targets and dispatch them with a quick burst. My reaction time and accuracy were significantly increased over that of using the dual shock controller alone. I have used the PlayStation sharpshooter control before, and at first it was a slight adjustment getting used to the reload button being at the bottom of the handle rather than below the ammunition clip. This was a very quick adjustment and the sturdy design of the Striker makes it a very enjoyable unit came with.
I did have a bit of discomfort during my early sessions as getting used to the texture of the trigger did cause some slight irritation from repeated pressings. This however was the only thing about the unit that I had any issues with and they were extremely minor.
The unit was designed for the upcoming DUST 514 and Bioshock Infinite which is ideal for normally do these look to be top games, but console gamers looking for precision control an edge in online play certainly now have a new ally in the AK Striker

My Thoughts on The Next Gen Console Anti-Used Game Issue

There has been alot of talk and panic about the news of Sony registering software that will not allow used games to be played on their systems. Many suspect this will be a key part of the Playstation 4 and rumors have also arisen that Microsoft will also have a feature similar to this in their new Xbox system. I remember this same issue over used CDs in the early 90s. Here is an audio of my off the cuff thoughts on this issue and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Wii U in Review

Skewed n’Reviewed sat down with Ken Jager of Nintendo to discuss the new Wii U console, which launched on Sunday, November 18th. Nintendo sent their rolling display trailer to Seattle Center to meet with the press and continue promoting the new system as the holiday season approaches. It should come as no surprise that Nintendo is making a mad promotional push, as new systems do exceptionally well during the first Christmas season immediately following their launch.

As we sat down with Ken, I wanted to know what was new, what they were most proud of, and what was going to set them apart from the rest of the big-boys (the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, most notably). He was quick to cite the Wii U’s most popular feature: their dual-screen technology

Dual-screen technology for this system includes the normal TV display, and also the Wii U’s GamePad controller, which has its own sizable touchscreen. This touchscreen has been integrated into every game. In some cases, like ZombiU, your mini-map, backpack and other options are all available on the GamePad screen, freeing up 100% of the main screen’s real estate for the actual gameplay. No more cluttered screens!

Jager said the console has the ability to go seamlessly from big screen to small, back again, pause, flip to the full internet browser, or even play a game while streaming a movie. It’s all possible with this system, and it’s done in full 1080p with a powerful video processor if you have another streaming device hooked up to another source in your TV, but not both running on the same console.

The Wii U is backwards compatible with all things Wii, meaning that Nintendo will, over time, phase out Wii sales in favor of the superior system. If you already have accessories for your Wii, fear not; they are all usable on the Wii U.

Other features of the Wii U make it clear Nintendo is taking a page out of Microsoft’s book. With the availability of Miiverse (for social connections), streaming services (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant), and a full browser, Nintendo is developing an online service to rival Xbox Live. Miiverse allows you to share successes, ask for help on challenges, and post thoughts on the latest sports game to Facebook/Twitter/etc. You can see your friends, and even other Wii-U owners in your local region. It’s an interesting new way of connecting with other people via home entertainment.

The new controller pad feels large in your hands at first, especially if you are a long-time console gamer. But you still have the standard double thumb-sticks, ABXY and directional cross buttons, and the accompanying shoulder and Z triggers. Having the fully-functioning touch-screen in your hands while trying to play a game takes some getting used to, but most gamers will have an easy time adapting. Once you get in sync with this new method, you’ll wonder where it’s been all your life.

The control pad comes with a gyroscope sensor, and it’s really amazing to see how games like ZombiU integrate that technology. It has to be experienced. But once you do, you’ll have a smile on your face like we did, watching our avatar on the screen scan the area with his pad as we tilted ours. (Or moved it around to fire the machine gun!) The bat computer also rest in your hands when playing the new Batman: Arkham City – Armored Eddition, as another example of the second screen usage.

Lastly, regarding the new Wii U GamePad: it does come with an integrated camera, so you can video chat with anyone else that owns a Wii U. Third-party programs like Skype are not needed.

With 23 games available on launch day, including a Mario game (which hasn’t happened on a console launch day since the Nintendo 64), there is a handsome selection from which to choose. It includes titles from Nintendo’s iconic intellectual properties, such as Zelda and Mario, as well as several third-party games, such as the aforementioned ZombiU, which was developed by Ubisoft.

Ken said Nintendo is most proud of the community and the successful integration of internet, gaming, and a multitude of ways to consume the entertainment through Miiverse. While the Wii U is first and foremost a gaming platform, Nintendo is very keen to point out how important it was for them to create a true home-entertainment system that allowed for gaming, tv/movie streaming, and split-screen multi-media consumption, not to mention creating a community to connect Wii-U owners with other players in addition to friends and family.

With a variety of titles like New Super Mario Bros. U, ZombiU, Ninja Gaiden 3, Pikmin 3 (coming soon), Wii Fit U, and Batman: Arkham City – Armored Edition, there are games for anyone and everyone. Don’t worry; they still have dancing and karaoke games for those of you with a penchant for such things!

The Wii U comes in two versions:

Basic: White console with 8 GB of flash storage drive: $299.99
Deluxe: Black console with 32 GB of flash storage, plus a pad-charging cradle, bundled with the game Nintendo Land. Price: $349.99 (only $50 more — easy decision.)

This is clearly the system to buy if you are a Nintendo console gamer. If you don’t own a Wii and you’ve been thinking about buying one, I just gave you a reason to get the Wii U instead, and another reason to invest in Nintendo’s console business.

Nintendo has done it again. They continue to be innovators in the gaming market. Their newest contribution to home entertainment is sure to delight a very broad range of users. For kids and adults, for everything from gaming to video chat, this system is a must-have.

How the Wii U Converted a Nintendo Skeptic

When I first saw Nintendo’s new entertainment console the Wii U, it was at the 2011 E3 Expo in Los Angeles. I was intrigued by the possibilities of the new unit, but had to wonder to myself that Nintendo was still playing catch-up as graphically I didn’t see anything that was superior to what was are ready being offered by the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.

When Nintendo later disclosed that much the footage shown during our conference was actually that of games running on other consoles it certainly gave me reason for concern.

At the 2012 Expo, I was given some hands-on time with the unit, and again my concerns about the graphical power of the system were raised. While I found the games exceptionally fun, I kept getting a feeling that much of it had been throttled back and I was essentially getting the same games that I played on the Wii just with slightly brighter and shinier graphics, yet with those that did not greatly surpass what was currently available.

People were quick to tout the supposed technical abilities of the CPU and graphics processors the system is supposed to employ but to me all the horsepower in the world doesn’t do anything if the developers do not program games to take advantage of the hardware’s abilities.

When we went to San Diego Comic Con, we were invited to a press only viewing of the new system and I was happy to see that a larger selection of games was made available for us to sample. While I enjoyed thoroughly the Nintendo produced games would really caught my eye was ZombieU from Ubisoft, and Ninja Gaiden 3 : Razors Edge by Tecmo and published by Nintendo.

Not only did I see very intense and violent gameplay, but I saw a sharp and colorful graphics, with lightning fast yet razor smooth gameplay and animations. These two games really gave me an idea of what the new console is capable of, and had me thinking that unlike the Wii, third-party games will not have to be throttled down and limited in order to be played on the platform.

Having to sacrifice graphical quality, online play, and even portions of the game, will not be an issue for this new console. It will be very intriguing as the years go by and more developers learn new ways to program for the system what exciting things will lay ahead for gamers.
While I enjoyed the Wii there were at times many games I felt I had to sacrifice quality for the novelty of using a motion sensitive control. I really think that with the Wii U gamers will have the opportunity to play cutting-edge games without having to sacrifice anything yet get the added dimensions of motion sensitive controls, touchscreen inventories, and perhaps even in time, video interaction with other gamers.

I personally am going to have a wait-and-see approach to anything but console exclusives as the PC does remain my platform of choice for gaming, but it’s certainly going to be interesting to see if a multiplatform game release will allow the system to stand toe to toe with the other consoles without asking gamers to sacrifice any graphical or online gameplay.

Another very positive sign was during our media visits during PAX Prime was learning that respected headset manufacturer Turtle Beach has two headsets, The Nla and the N11 due out November which is designed for the Nintendo Wii system. Seeing microphone equipped headsets indicates that this system is going to be a much bigger player in the online gaming community and we’ve ever seen previously from Nintendo.

I’m not going go into the waves of technical specs of the system because as to me the proof is in the gameplay. A developer can count all the hardware specs in the world but it means absolutely nothing if the products that come out do not meet or exceed the current standards of the competition. That being said, while I started as a skeptic, I become so impressed with what I’ve seen in the potential of the unit that we decided to make the Wii U cover story for October magazine, and eagerly look forward to the arrival of our unit.

One thing I found very interesting is that despite minimal ads for the unit, the units have sold out of the pre-orders for the 32GB units and were almost sold out of the base unit as well.

I have held focus groups with several middle and high school students and asked them what they thought of the console. Most admitted they had not even heard of it. This shocked me as this is the target demographic, but my sample size was limited to one market. Clearly the worldwide pre-orders show that Nintendo has a massive hit coming.

NVIDIA Announces Two New Graphics Cards

By: Ben Rueter
Nvidia announced that they will be releasing two new graphics cards from their GeForce line.

The two cards are titled Geforce GTX 660 and 650. According to Byran Del Rizzo, Senior PR Manager of Nvidia, these will be marketed with an affordable and competitive price tag. The Geforce 660 will debut at $229 and the 650 will go for $109.

Rizzo stated that most PC gamers have not switched over to a Direct X 11 card with the majority of Steam players still using old tech.

Rizzo said that Nvidia wants a lower price for new gamers and those who haven’t upgraded yet to jump on board with a new graphics card. It will be interesting to see how these new cards fair against competitively priced and similar AMD card that are on the market.

Nvidia touts that these cards will help speed up your PC gaming by four times. The 660 and 650 — using the same Kepler tech found in Nvidia’s other 600-line up — includes increased power usage over the previous models. The specs allow the PCs to run new 3D intensive graphics games this year at a reasonable price. While you won’t be able to max out your settings with these cards you’ll be able to join in on new releases.

The new cards are launching just in time for the new slew of DX11 games launching this holiday season. Games like Borderlands 2, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and Black Ops 2 will all be able to run better than usual according to Nvidia and they claims that these cards will be on the market just in time for you, so keep an eye open for these cards.

POWER A PAX Prime 2012 Report

Power A has two new products hitting shelves just in time for the holiday season. Both deal with Gaming Controllers, but in very different ways.

MOGA

The MOGA is a Mobile Gaming controller for Bluetooth enabled Android 2.3+ devices. It works in harmony with the MOGA pivot app to instantly connect you with the expanding library of MOGA Enhanced Games. This library will continue to grow through Power A’s work with developers and publishers to create compatible versions of their games. Upon launch, any game that will be compatible will have an update ready to let you start using this amazing device.

The MOGA is a full featured controller that has dual analog sticks, shoulder triggers and four action buttons. You are able to easily secure most, if not all, Android phones into the device with the fold out arm, but securing the device is not necessary to use the MOGA Gaming Controller (which is a relief as it is compatible with tablets as well).
As I experienced the controller first hand playing Virtua Tennis, I could help but feel how comfortable the controller felt to use. The second thing that I noticed was the response time from the controller to the game. The delay was practically non-existence with very, very responsive controls. You won’t want to put it down once you start using it, which is okay because it gets up to 16 hours of gameplay on 2 AAA batteries.

Fusion Tournament Controllers

Power A is also getting ready to release their own pro-series controllers called the Fusion Tournament Controllers. These controllers will be offered for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Power A worked very closely with professional gamers to get the ergonomics and quality of the controller perfect, and the end result really shows this well.
As compared to the traditional controller that come with plastic insides and hard plastic… well everything, these controllers are built to last. They have made everything inside the controller with metal and they offer both plastic and rubberized grips. The d-pad has been redesigned to feel more natural than the ones from the standard issued controllers. The bumpers on the Xbox controller wrap around and the triggers jut out giving a much more comfortable feel. On top of all this, the controllers are slimmer, which for me makes it easier to use the Xbox controller as it just sits better in your hands. And of course, because it is a tournament controller, it is wired. But a lot of professional gamers have issues with cable management, and many times lose any type of rubber band or wrap that comes with the controller. The neat thing about the Power A Fusion Tournament Controller is that the wrap for the wire doubles as a bracelet; so you can wrap it around your wrist when it is not wrapped around the controller.

I had the opportunity to use the Xbox version of the controller to play Halo against one of Power A’s professional gaming consultants. While I did get creamed playing the game, I did feel more confident as I was playing thanks to this very easy to use and natural feeling controller. And I could definitely tell it was built to take a beating as I tried to abuse it as much as I could during the demo (with Power A’s permission of course.

Look for both of these products to hit the retail shelves in October of 2012, just in time for the holidays.

Corsair Vengeance 2000 Wireless Gaming Headphones

One of the great joys of my job is testing out all the latest and greatest in computer hardware and technology. Although it can have its share of frustrations, when a product shines during every step of the review process is a thing of beauty.

Such is the case with Vengeance 2000 wireless gaming headset from Corsair. The company long known for creating high-quality power units, cases, and memory, has had phenomenal success with their exceptional line of vengeance gaming accessories. The line has produced high-end mechanical keyboards, gaming mice, headsets, and cases, that provide top quality performance and durability at an affordable price for gamers of all skill levels.

In the past I have been skeptical of some wireless devices as aside from my consuls and cell phones, I prefer to use corded headsets, keyboards, and mice with our office PCs. One of the main reasons is that items that lose a charge or connectivity can result in lost productivity and work.

One of the things I noticed about the Vengeance 2000 was that it is a very sleek, stylish, and comfortable unit. It offers 7.1 surround sound gaming audio and has a connectivity of 40 feet with the battery life of 10 hours per charge.

It is a very solid and durable unit, yet does not weigh down upon you, and is very comfortable to wear even after hours of use.

This is ideal for me as it can become frustrating when you lean too far from your desk and have the headphones abruptly pulled from your head. While this may not be standard for most gamers, I can tell you that in an office for multitasking is a way of life, bending to pick something up or checking a drawer while a game is loading is a constant occurrence and being able to eliminate the need to remove the headset or do it delicate bend and stretch was a dream come true.

The earpieces and headband are extremely comfortable and have cushioned microfiber foam which for me helped eliminate some of the background noise. The sound quality is simply amazing from playing music and games to watching movies, I have never had such a comfortable and enjoyable audio experience with any headset to date.

Setup was incredibly easy as all I needed to do was plug in the USB connector and the charge cable into the headset. The unit can function fully while charging which allows maximum flexibility as you can either have a corded or wireless experience. This came in very handy recently has after doing a series of segments for E3, I found that I was running low on charge. Rather than have to delay my work, I simply plug the headset into the charger and kept going with absolutely no down time.

The microphone on the unit is extremely high-quality and I’ve had the best voice capture experience with my Dragon dictation software, as well as with Skype and gaming. The extremely strong and clear output is greatly improve the quality of my work and gaming experiences. The microphone easily flips up alongside the left ear for those times when you do not need a microphone.

Of course gaming is where this unit really shines and when I love it was the fact that the volume control and the synch are discreetly located on the outside of the left earpiece. A simple pressing of the plate synchs the unit, and by rolling up or down on the volume control bar, I was easily able to raise and lower the volume mid-game without missing a beat .

I tested the unit on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Diablo 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and countless other programs and had nothing but phenomenal experiences across the board. Crisp audio, awesome bass, and a clarity unsurassed in any headset experience to date. In fact, I was so impressed with the unit for both gaming and work at it is now become the only headset I use with my main gaming and office PC.

From the stylish look, to the solid comfort and top-level performance, Corsair had delivered the new standard in wireless gaming headsets with this phenomenal unit

We Have Seen The Future of Handheld Gaming: Our Playstation Vita Review

The arrival of the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) marks a new time in the evolution of handheld video games. While the new device looks very similar to its predecessor, the PSP, the PS Vita is an entirely innovative system unlike anything else on the market. Sporting two analog sticks, ideal for fighting and shooting games on the go, and large front and back touch screens, the Vita offers game play that is interactive on two levels, literally.

The PS Vita has considerable social gaming functions that allow players to join into certain games based on relative proximity to other players, as well the ability to play with your friend’s around the world. The PS Vita even keeps a rolling leader board with freshly updating statistics that will be shared automatically with the network.

As if the advanced technology was not enough to entice gamers, along with the release of the PS Vita will be twenty-five available titles. For those who want even more titles, another seventy are in development. This gives the device the potential to maintain fresh momentum beyond initial release into the foreseeable future.

The system is so gripping that it takes drill down analysis to see the possible faults of the PS Vita. The system comes with both a directional pad and the analog sticks, however both of the titles I examined did not have the option of switching between the two control systems. This means that players will be forced, at least on occasion, to use the developers chosen navigation format. Additionally, while the extensive leader board functionality is exciting, will all players want continuous updates of all super gamer friend achievements? Unlike the XBox 360 where this information can be ignored, the PS Vita seems to force this social element into constant view.

For those who are seeking additional digital connection there is no built in functionality for sending scores directly to the big established social networks (such as Twitter and Facebook). For better or worse PS Vita bragging rights may be limited to other PS Vita users.
Still these are knit-picky complaints, the PS Vita is entirely promising and having first hand experience with the system proves that the evolution from the PSP to the PS Vita is significantly better than imagined. Now if you will excuse me I have something to pre-order.
