TV series are literally changing your lives!
One cannot deny the influence pop culture has had on our daily lives. Be it Michael Jackson’s dreamy moves or Sean Connery’s charm, we’ve all tried to imagine ourselves pulling it off like a piece of cake during all those daydreaming sessions. The songs we hear on the radio define certain moments in our lives and have an inseparable attachment to certain memories. Even taking TV for that matter, we have all wanted to take a romantic detour from our boring school trip like Lizzie McGuire did when she went to Italy. We have always considered having a double life like Miley and having secret powers like the Russo’s.
More importantly, we have been exposed to a lot of new ideas and perspectives through narratives in these shows.
The Netflix era
Fast forward to 2021, we now have Netflix and chill. No in fact ,we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO NOW, Youtube TV, Telegram, etc. and chill. The world of Peaky Blinders and Money Heist is categorically different from the kind of movies and shows we grew up with. Not to mention how vastly affected our brothers and sisters are by these shows. When Thomas Shelby smoked a cigarette and took a casual walk down Birmingham square, it without question tempted us to at least smoke one. When Nairobi got shot, didn’t we just cry for the night? These two are just at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to popular shows.
Additionally a ton of not-so-popular shows also make their way to the water surface even after years of its creation.
Japan has come up with an evidently character and heritage driven show called Anime. The popularity of Anime is huge. The sheer darkness of the characters and portrayal of scenes are just an overwhelming high for the audience. Outwardly, all parts of the globe started producing TV shows specific to their region like K-drama, Manga, Comics etc.
Stats are the proof!
The connection between TV series and our minds
The society is in fact moulded by the character portrayals in these shows. We have a range of available stories and unique character personalities to be influenced from, and we without doubt, did get influenced by them. We started cosplaying like them, we started imitating their
mannerisms and we started and ended up being them. The oddness of each character was derived into us, and will continue to do so for shows to come. There is a lot of goodness and sickness we learned and it all comes down to us, on what to carry forward.
We are undeniably at the summit of human evolution, and we need to learn to segregate our thoughts too, for we have a younger generation coming who are going to look up to us.
