We Talk “Odd Man Rush” And The Mighty Ducks Television Series With Descendants Star Dylan Playfair

Recently I spoke with Actor Dylan Playfair.  Dylan has a very busy schedule of projects coming up as not only does he have “Odd Man Rush” ; Dylan was also a big part of the Descendants series and

also appears in the new Mighty Ducks series on Disney+ amongst his numerous pending projects.

How did you get into acting and what was your big break?

I always knew I wanted to be an actor so it was really a matter of time and place. I got my first big break with Grave Encounters 2 a horror film done by Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz. That opened the door for me in a big way. From there I basically ran with every chance I was given.

Can you tell us your new projects as you have a lot going on.

Certainly! Letterkenny is still in production but has been postponed due to Covid and my fiancé and I are venturing into the world of commercial production with our company Media Button based in Vancouver. I have a hard time sitting still so busy is my flow state.

What do you remember most about your work in the Descendants series?

The dancing and the people. It was really a very special time in my life. The opportunity to work with such incredible creators at Disney was a dream come true. Kenny Ortega is a legend and the cast really bonded in a way that’s difficult too describe. It will forever be one of my most cherished memories on a film set.

What is your favorite Disney park attraction and how many parks have you visited?

Ohh, that’s a tough one… Magic Mountain is pretty stellar… see what I did there 😉 I’ve only been to Disneyland and California Adventure but I’m keen to explore more parks around the globe. Maybe Mr. Mouse will invite us to Disneyland for our honeymoon!

Lots of people have fond memories of The Mighty Ducks. What can you tell us about your character in the new series?

I can’t tell you too much as were still filming but I can tell you it’s going to be very reminiscent of the original films with Steve Brill at the helm. I’m very stoked to be a Mighty Duck!

Hockey is a big part of your background, in what ways are Hockey and acting alike and different?

They’re alike in the sense that you have to be self-motivated while understanding a team dynamic. There’s a lot of hard work and luck involved in both careers. There’s also a lot of fun to be had when hard work and luck intersect. The differences? I’m a much better hockey player on TV than in reality.

What is it like to be a part of the Disney family?

It’s very special, the people at Disney go out of their way to make you feel like you’re a part of a family. Obviously this year has presented a lot of difficulties in regards to getting together at the normal events Disney throws but they actively engage talent which gives you the sense you’re part of the family.

Do you have a favorite role or type of role you would like to be cast as in the future?

I love comedy. I feel comedic timing is something I understand deeply as a part of my personality. That said, understanding comedy, I believe, informs dramatic acting. Comedy is all about timing and being receptive to the moment. When you see comedic actors take on dramatic roles I think the performances speak for themselves.

How are you spending your isolation time?

A lot of watching TV, camping with my fiancé and developing content for the future. It’s been tough but I’m very proud of what we have been able to accomplish despite Covid-19.

Can you tell us about any of your upcoming projects?

Certainly, the next season of Letterkenny is coming… hold tight! Mighty Ducks is going to be a beautiful reintroduction of the franchise for the next generation. Odd Man Rush is a quirky family friendly comedic biopic about the obscure leagues in Europe and the shenanigans that take place over there.
