Operation Tango Demo Released As Part Of Gamescom 2020

I hope we get more releases like this as the weekend unfolds.

Independent game studio Clever Plays today announced it will release a playable demo of its upcoming game, Operation: Tango in conjunction with this week’s Gamescom 2020 online event. The PC demo is available starting tomorrow as a free download on the Operation: Tango Steam page.

The espionage-themed asymmetrical cooperative adventure game has received two Gamescom Award nominations – Best Multiplayer Game and Most Original Game, with the winners being announced during tonight’s Gamescom 2020 Opening Night Live show, hosted by Geoff Keighley, and during IGN’s Gamescom Best of Awards Show on Sunday, August 30.

The first Operation: Tango gameplay will be revealed today during IGN’s official Gamescom coverage and the GamesRadar Future Games Show, broadcast on popular steaming and social channels. Clever Plays will also be featured along with 12 other Canadian and German indie titles in the Indie Arena Booth virtual exhibit area, sponsored by the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Initiative.

Operation: Tango takes an innovative approach to the co-op game genre, requiring two players to truly collaborate closely, with one in the role of “Agent” and the other in the role of “Hacker”. Constantly linked via voice communications and an augmented, fully connected world, each has a different play experience, leveraging each other’s skills to infiltrate, investigate, and eradicate the forces threatening the free world.

Teamwork and verbal communication are at the center of the experience, with dialog between players being key to the progression of the game. Only by sharing the vantage points of each role can they overcome the many challenges that stand between them and completing each mission.

It is in that same spirit that Clever Plays has kicked off its “It Takes Two to Save the World” charity campaign benefitting Oxfam’s global fight against poverty. For each person that downloads the Operation: Tango demo, recruits a friend, records their play experience, and shares it with Clever Plays, a donation of $5.00 USD will be made in each player’s name, up to $3,000. Details of the campaign can be found at www.operation-tango.com/charity/.

“We wanted to encourage people to download the demo and play the game with a friend to try the experience, then we realized we could raise money for a good cause at the same time” said Angela Mejia, co-founder and Clever Plays studio head. “Operation: Tango is all about working together to save the world and this charity drive takes that tagline to heart.”Operation: Tango is slated for release in Q1, 2021 for Steam, PS4, and Xbox One, with additional platforms to possibly follow.
