Freedom Finger

The description of this game as being a “bat$#!% crazy space shooter” pretty much nails it.The good: The 80’s cold war era arcade nostalgia is delightful, the soundtrack is epic and most fitting for the style of game-play, and the hand drawn look is refreshing in its simplicity. The ability to grab enemies and punch objects in addition to the usual point and shoot is highly innovative.

The bad: This game is crass… Crass to the point where it almost feels as though the devs were trying a bit too hard to be as crass as humanly possible. The comedy is lowbrow, and the excessive use of marijuana references is tired and lazy. Now, I understand that it is meant to be a parody, but I wonder at times what it’s trying to be a parody of exactly.

Is it making fun of just America and its erroneous view of other nations, or is the parody extended to the dev’s actual perception of China and Russia? Yes, this game is bound to piss some people off… and for that, I cannot praise it more. This title is fun, engaging, and reasonably addictive. That said, its also really freaking HARD! Anyone playing it who bought it because of the aforementioned marijuana reverences, may want to rethink how high they get before pressing start.Get ready to grab, punch, and finger your way to adventure!
