WHAT: Legendary rockers Jefferson Starship will take the stage at SeaWorld this weekend as part of SeaWorld’s summer concert series, with two free shows on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 31 and Sept. 1). The live concerts, which are included with park admission, will be performed at 2 and 5 p.m. at SeaWorld’s outdoor Nautilus Amphitheater. Then, guests can stay after the concert and enjoy the final weekend of the park’s summer nighttime extravaganza Electric Ocean, featuring special shows, lighting installations, fireworks and dance parties. WHEN: Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 31 and Sept. 1) at 2 and 5 p.m.

Alternative rock band Vertical Horizon kicks off series

WHAT: Summer just got even hotter at SeaWorld, with the announcement of a new summer weekend-concert series, kicking off with alternative rock band Vertical Horizon. Best known for their hit song, “Everything You Want,” (Billboard’s Most Played Single in 2000), Vertical Horizon will perform two free shows a day at SeaWorld’s outdoor Nautilus Amphitheater on Aug. 3 and 4. The remaining artists for SeaWorld’s summer concert series (which will continue on weekends through Sept. 1) will be announced soon.

DETAILS: Vertical Horizon was founded in the early 1990s by undergraduate students from Georgetown University. With lead singer and founding member Matthew Scannell as frontman, Vertical Horizon recorded several indie albums before being signed to RCA in 1998.

What’s happening at SeaWorld San Diego:

SeaWorld Inside Look returns the first two weekends in September with special opportunities focused “Animal Care: See What the Vets See,” including behind-the-scenes access at several areas, including the hospital and rescue areas of SeaWorld’s Animal Health and Rescue Center, a behind-the-scenes beluga whale pool and an above-view of the orca pools. Inside Look, which is open to any park visitor and is included with park admission, will take place Sept. 7–8 and Sept. 14–15.

On Sept. 21, SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular kicks off, with 10 free trick or treat stations, the Sesame Street Halloween Parade, Clyde & Seamore’s Big Halloween Bash sea lion and otter show and more. New this year: guests can use a special scavenger hunt map to find ocean-inspired pumpkins throughout the park. Halloween Spooktacular continues on Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 27.

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: SeaWorld’s summer-weekend concert lineup is hotter than ever, with free live concerts performed twice a day at SeaWorld’s outdoor Nautilus Amphitheater on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 1. Featured this weekend will be country artist Craig Morgan (Aug. 10–11). The lineup continues with Journey tribute band Never Stop Believin,’ Aug. 17–18; pop singer Jesse McCartney, Aug. 24–25; and classic rock band Jefferson Starship, Aug. 31–Sept. 1. Concerts are at 1 and 5 p.m. (with the exception of Jefferson Starship, who will perform at 2 and 5 p.m.). Venue opens one hour prior to performance, and seating is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
