Day One: SDCC 2019 Panel Recap

During our coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2019; I got to spend some time in the Indigo Ballroom around my scheduled interviews and meetings and got a chance to experience and amazing array of upcoming shows.

After an opening panel about the Unreal Engine, we got a chance to experience the cast and creative talents behind the Netflix series The Order. There were plenty of clips and a great question and answer session which featured one of the cast taking part via a chat video as they were visiting family during the convention.

Up next was Undone which will be appearing soon on Amazon Prime the show stars Bob Odenkirk, and Rosa Salazar in a Rotoscoped series following a girl who struggles to grasp if the bizarre events around her are real or a figment of her possibly deteriorating mind.

The show has a very unique visual look as the cast are done in an animated way with Rotoscoping which gives the appearance of animation.

Next up was a new show coming to ABC titled Emergence. The show stars Allison Tolman, Clancy Brown, and Donald Faison and we were treated to an early look at the first episode for the series.

The story involves a missing girl with mysterious powers who is pursued by a mysterious group and the local law enforcement officer who decided to take the girl in and protect her at all costs.

The show combined elements of a Family Drama, Police Procedural, and Science Fiction and was riveting from start to finish and is one that I am already looking forward to seeing more of.

Next up was Stumptown which stars Colby Smulders as a Vet with PTSD who ends of battling criminals and dealing with her life, the authorities, and more in Portland Oregon.

The clip we saw featured Smulders battling two inept goons who had her bound in their car all the while giving instructions about the dangers on the road they need to avoid while she works them over. What makes this even more amusing was the Classic Rock playing in the background.

The series is based on a set of Graphic Novels and also features Michael Ealy and Jake Johnson and features and impressive supporting cast of unique and bizarre characters which will give the show one of the more diverse and unique looks when it arrives.

Superstore was up next and I saw many fans with their Cloud 9 clothing waiting to enter the room early that morning as they were eager to see the show make its debut at SDCC.

From a hilarious sizzle reel to the featured cast; the panel did not disappoint as the panelists answered several questions from the capacity audience who eagerly awaited as much news as they could on what is to come in the upcoming fifth season.

This was just a small part of my first day as I also had several interviews to do as well as additional coverage but it once again reinforced the amazing quality and diversity that is featured at the convention.
