How Nintendo Can Keep Momentum And The Critical Junction Ahead

The Nintendo Switch has continued to sell well and has delighted legions of fans and gamers the world over. While things continue to look up for the company who needed this rebound after the WiiU disappointed, Nintendo in many ways is at an important and perhaps critical junction for their new system.

With E3 coming in June, Sony, Microsoft, and many other publishers will be touting their new and pending games and naturally it is a great time for excitement in the industry. The challenge Nintendo will face is to keep the excitement and momentum going.

Yes they have an impressive list of games but many are remasters or reissues of older games. They have some great exclusives but will need more going forward and they already have some great stuff coming.
Now here is when we play Devil’s Advocate; one might say that thanks to the early supply issues with the Nintendo Switch, the demand that was created is likely to lull now that a more readily available supply of the systems is available. Yes they have done an amazing job bringing games like DOOM and the pending Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus to their system. However the games while looking and playing good on the system do undermine the technological limitations of the system. The Switch simply cannot run many AAA games at the same graphical quality and framerate as the PS4, and Xbox One. To say nothing of the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and a gaming PC as can be seen in the links below.

Now any Switch user will tell you it is not about the graphics and framerates are not everything as they like the fun games that Nintendo is known for. Fair enough; but with titles like God of War and Days Gone coming to the PS4 and Far Cry 5 coming as an example, it is key to make sure Nintendo has some amazing things for their fans. We have heard that the next Call of Duty game will be coming to the system which is amazing if true, but I still remember how bad Call of Duty: World at War played on our Wii compared to the PC version of the game.

It is also going to be interesting to see how the Labo is received. I have asked some Switch owners about it and they think it could be a failure waiting to happen.

Time will tell but Nintendo has continued to sell an impressive number of their systems, it will be very interesting to see what they have going forward as I am eager to see what they have next.
