Nearly Two Million Mentions in a Week, Carrie Fisher Honored

NEW YORK – Star Wars fans continue to blow up social media with chatter about The
Last Jedi and its stars in anticipation of Friday’s premiere.  Of the 5.5 million
social posts that have appeared over the past month, nearly 2 million of those posts
have been made in the last week, according to international social media analytics
( firm Talkwalker.

The peak this week came in the past 24 hours, with more than a half million posts,
including 36,600 posts in the hour between noon and 1 p.m. eastern time on Dec. 12
when the European premiere was about to take place in London and generated this

This Instagram post from CNN generated more than 42,000 reactions, featuring Prince
William and Prince Harry

Both Prince William and Prince Harry began trending around the topic of Star Wars,
with 9,900 mentions of Prince William and 9,200 of Prince Harry, almost all within
the past 24 hours. In fact, both princes’ names had realized a 1,000 percent
increase over the previous day when related to Star Wars.

The other top trending celebrity is the late Carrie Fisher with more than 36,000
mentions in the past week and nearly 10,000 of those over the past 24 hours.
