There is a real-life version of Valerian Steel

In Game of Thrones, everybody wants the best swords and blades and they are always made from the famous Valyrian steel. The metal in the Game of Thrones World was actually based on whats known as Damascus steel in real life which is developed in India and the Middle East. Both substances are known for being incredibly string and sharp.

Aemon Targaryen was blind in real life

Maester Aemon Targaryen was in the show right up until his character died in 2015 and was played by the late Peter Vaughan. Maester Aemon was blind in the show and Peter Vaughan was actually partially blind in real life. He was acting in Game of Thrones right up until the age of 92.

There have been over 150,000 deaths on screen so far

When it comes to Game of Thrones, youre right to expect plenty of violence and gore but the figure of 150,966 on screen deaths so far may surprise a lot of people. This is since its first showing back in 2011 and it includes extras and animals too. Its still a pretty staggering amount regardless.

Theres a Game of Thrones Slot Game

On the back of the success of the show, slot giants Microgaming set about developing a slot based on the hit series. The 243 video slot is hugely popular and features recognisable symbols such as the different Westeros houses, the Iron Throne and other GOT related pictures. Theres also a very nice free spin feature to activate too.

You can study Game of Thrones at university

For those fans wishing to take their level of knowledge of Game of Thrones to the next level, then Harvard University is the place to be. The introductory course is called The Real Game of Thrones: From Modern Myths to Medieval Models and it encourages people to look at the medieval past through Game of Thrones.

Musicians have appeared in the show

It seems to be a bit of a must play gig scenario when it comes to Game of Thrones with real life musicians appearing in cameo roles. The lead singer of Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody, is seen singing in season 3 when Jamie and Brienne are captured. Coldplays Will Champion and Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros have also made appearances.

Cerseis Walk of Shame really happened

Cersei Lannister was made to walk naked through the streets at the end of season five as punishment and this event was inspired by a real-life medieval case that occurred in Britain. Jane Shore was the mistress of King Edward IV and after his death faced the treatment seen in Game of Thrones.
