Spells Of Genesis

Greetings & Salutations Everyone!

It’s been a while! I hope you are all well and partaking in all the awesomeness that coincides with the beginnings of spring. Speaking of which, it has become commmonplace in recent years to pass the time on road trips in the car, plane flights to vacation destinations, etc. To pass the time via mobile games and puzzles on ones tablets or smartphones. Today’s mobile game for your consideration fits this purpose to a ‘T’.

‘Spells Of Genesis’ is 1 part fantasy card trading game, 1 part pool table, 1 part pinball machine.

Published by Channel 4 games and developed by EverdreamSoft, ‘Spells Of Genesis’ brings a unique melding of arcade gameplay with the strategy of trading card games. As a player, you start off finding yourself in the lawless land of Moonga. A land of villains, heroes, and monsters. You must gather character and weapons cards via main gameplay which involves you playing a set of three to four character cards in an arcade format-style pseudo-maze. In each level, you will encounter various enemies and obstacles. You must utilize the unique power of each charter card to defeat the various enemies and their orbs to over come the obstacles in your path. As you progress you will acquire gold and experience which you can apply to new character cards. Create your own unique deck by trading, collecting, or purchasing them in the game. There are 150 levels in the game and over 300 orbs to collect which you can modify and combine to suit your gameplay. There are also hundreds of hand-drawn cards and colorful fantasy-driven graphics. One of the many unique features of this game is that it utilizes a new in game currency based on the crypto currency, bitcoin blockchain. To put it simply, in theory the game allows you to own and trade cards for bitcoins that can be then exchanged for cash (Please note that no staff member @ Skewed & Reviewed magazine has put this to the test.) So theoretically, you can ‘own’ your in-game assets and move/transfer them to other games. This game does feature a standard in-game store where you can crystals and other assets to utilize within the game itself.

I’m going to go ahead and give this game 4 out of 5 stars. Although the game crashed twice on me, that was only twice in five hours of gameplay. With constant updates to mobile apps, I’m sure that issue will be resolved soon. The storyline/premise really doesn’t have much of a bearing on the actual game except to provide points of reference for the play to engage in the gameplay. The game’s graphics and audio are above standard. Plus, the game accomplishes what it was designed for and that is to occupy the game’s potential players with potentially hours upon hours of gameplay to pass the time.
