Shoot The Dragon

Greetings & Salutations Everyone!

Okay. As far as the subject of mobile app games is concerned, 2017 is turning out to be a most excellent year so far in my humble opinion. I have not seen one game released this year thus far that I wouldn’t keep on my tablet or phone on standby. At this point, I have to wonder how long it’ll be before mobile games are on par with console or desktop games. I see it as not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Today’s game for your consideration is no exception.

‘Shoot The Dragons’ is a side-shooter game from Weedo Technology Corporation Limited visually reminiscent of the SEGA Genesis years. The game begins by whisking you away to the world of Pandora (No ….. Not the ‘Pandora’ from James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’). You, the player, take on the role of ‘The Adventurer’ (who strangely resembles William Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation had he somehow become trapped in the universe of MegaMan). Gameplay is simple: scrolling up, down, forward, or back your character flies through the air powered by a rocket jet pack shooting at anything that moves. Your main weapon is constantly firing without any activation or deactivation on the player’s part.

However, there is a secondary ‘super weapon’ which the player has control over depending on how much ammunition is available which you can earn through gameplay rewards. This secondary weapon is carried by ‘The Adventurer’s’ buddy who tags along with him on each level. Prior to gameplay, you can select from between four different buddies to accompany you and provide back-up as well as a unique secondary weapon for each level. As you play the game, you earn coins each time you destroy a certain number of enemies or a boss which can then be used to purchase extra lives and upgrade your weapon systems.

Like many games of this type, you earn power-ups that transform the character instantaneously. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much. Occasionally, the power-up will cause you to switch places with your buddy whom may take the bullet and sacrifice themselves for you or simply switch places with you making ‘The Adventurer’ the secondary attacker. One unique feature of this game is that although normal gameplay has not time limit, that changes when you’re fighting a boss giving you a limited amount of time to ‘let slip the dogs of war’ so to speak and eliminate the boss. Spoiler Alert! You don’t actually eliminate The Boss. You weaken it to a point and then use a vacuum-cleaner-like device to whisk the enemy boss of that level away from the battlefield. Ghostbusters Flashback! The app features an in-game store connected to iTunes where you can purchase extra credits to acquire extra lives and weapons upgrades in the game. The game is free to play and requires iOS 8 or above and is available for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch.

I’m giving this game 4 out of 5 stars. It definitely has an addiction potential and kids or grown-ups can easily spend hours playing this game with no guilt or regrets. Just remember to take a break every so often and rest your eyes!
