Storks

By Joshua Aja

Storks are no longer delivering babies, they now are in the package delivery business. As the movie opens the top delivering stork, Junior (voiced by Andy Samberg), is called to head stork Hunter’s (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) office after his one millionth successful delivery and told that he will become the new boss. One catch though, he must fire Tulip (voiced by Katie Crown), an orphaned human, before the end of the weekend. Tulip’s failed delivery was the reason the storks got out of the baby delivery business and into packages. Since then she had been the only human allowed on the island. She has the best intentions, while trying to help the storks in the delivery business, but every attempt to help leads to disaster and lost profits. Instead of firing Tulip, because it’s her birthday, he sends her to a deserted part of the facility. Unfortunately for Junior, Tulip tries to help and a baby appears. Now Junior and Tulip must deliver the baby before Hunter finds out and Junior loses his chance to be the boss.

Storks is fun and entertaining but could have more consistent laughs throughout. The animated adventure/comedy is warm and light hearted. I think that kids will definitely enjoy it. Adults will find some laughs and a heartwarming story. There are certainly laughs for all ages throughout but I would not say they are sustained for the entire movie. The cast of voices are eclectic and fun. From Dan Trejo (Voice of Jasper) to Jennifer Aniston and Ty Burrell (Voice of Sarah and Henry Gardner) they all add something different. My favorite scenes were with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele (Voice of Alpha Wolf and Beta Wolf) and their wolf pack, as they chased Junior and Tulip trying to capture the baby to raise as one of their own. The wolf pack created the biggest laughs and were the most memorable for me.  Only one character seemed out of place Pigeon Toady (Voiced by Stephen Kramer Glickman) and when this character was on it really slowed the overall momentum of the story. Other than that the story worked really well. The animation, from the same studio that did The Lego Movie, is very good. I did see the film in 3D and don’t think it added anything, so save your money on that unless you really like wearing the glasses.
