Star Trek Bridge Crew Hands On: PAX West 2016

During our coverage of PAX West 2016, I went over to the NVIDIA booth and was given a chance to pilot a Federation Starship as part of Star Trek: Bridge Crew coming soon from Ubisoft.

With four consoles in our room, I selected the helm and once we got started, four players were required to work as a team in order to complete the missions. After a shuttle ride over I used the V.R. controls to bring our ship navigation online and selected our destination. Once selected, I had to rotate our ship over to the warp lane, and with a push of a lever, I had us at Warp in no time. Once at our destination, I had to navigate us to escape pods, and maintain proper thrust and elevation on the ship. The other players handled other aspects and the vast bridge was filled with consoles and virtual players as well as our live crew.

We were jumped by two Klingons and I throttled us up to take on the enemy at point blank range. The other players took shots at the enemy and made sure our shields and weapons stayed charged and ready even when we took damage from the enemy assault.

I navigated our ship to put us as a buffer between us and the attacking ships. As we rotated to attack the enemy, we were working to beam aboard the survivors. Although we took a beating, we were able to withstand the assault and saved all 18 people which was the high score according to the reps and we were the only crew to manage this task.  I then selected our destination and angled our ship under fire to align with the Warp Corridor and had us back at base in no time.

Although we faced long odds, we were able to survive and complete our task fully and the potential of needing four players all in different locales to work with one another was a very interesting challenge and I cannot wait to play the full game when it is released as it is as close as a Star Trek fan can get to being in a show or movie.
