Rigs Mechanized Combat League Hands On: PAX West 2016

While covering PAX West 2016 I started off our coverage of Rigs Mechanized Combat League on the Playstation VR system on the PS4 system.

After donning the headgear and headphones, the simulation started and I was in a massive hangar and had virtual technicians and pilots coming up to me as I selected the unit that I would use in the arena. The virtual 360 setting was amazing and I saw a huge amount of detail from techs busy at work to my hands on the controls and the various displays.

While moving to launch I got an idea of the sheer size of my unit and before long I was mixing it up in the arena. Aiming with my head and using the Dual shock 4, I was able to jump, launch energy and missile weapons and collect items as I prepared to take an objective to a goal while keeping enemy units at bay

I was able to knock down enemy units in short order but found scoring goals to be harder than blowing up enemy units.

The match took an intermission and eventually my team was able to win as I had scored the most takedowns of enemy units. The action was fast, fun, and intense and the game looks great.

The match was very impressive and I was informed what I played was just one of the many game modes that would be available at launch and that there was much more in store. Having already ordered the Playstation VR system, I think this is a great launch title for the system.
